Is there any radio station in this country that plays ONLY rock ??

I lived in Sydney for a few years and they had some great stations dedicated to nothing but Rock from all different decades.
    but Here, nothing

Phantom is okay I suppose, but the rock golden nuggets are hidden amungst tonns of dreary self important alternative rubbish.

Can't believe there isn't a wide enough audience for it.
Loads of rock / metal lovers in the country.
    All in all, very disapointing.

Hard to beleive that the country that gave the world Thin Lizzy, Rory Gallagher and U2 don't have a rock radio station.

    What do you think ???

Would still be nice to have the choice.
Turn on the radio and hear AC/DC or Zeppelin blasting out.
Happens in other countries - why never here ???

I think it's about catchment. The population of Sydney is around 4 million - roughly the same as the Republic of Ireland. It's probably thought that a dedicated Rock/Metal station wouldn't have enough of an audience, and they wouldn't get the ad revenue needed to survive.

Even the UK has only had specialist rock stations in recent years, and really only with the advent of digital broadcasting.

The situation in America is such a contrast - you tune your radio until you hear something like 'Sad But True' blaring out. Leave the dial alone, keep driving until that one fades out and re-tune for another rock station. It's great.

Virgin Radio play a good lot of classic rock music, however, the sound quality is fairly rubbish if you're listening to it on a radio (1215 MW). Best listened to online.

U2 get quite a bit of air play ( against my best wishes ) but yes Thin lizzy dont, most of it is just gary moores rendition of parisisene walkways.

rory gallarhar is often played at night time but yes, phanthom gets progressively worst...

2fm at night plays a fair bit of rock, but the irish hour at night is when you hear thin lizzy and the likes.

Phantom is a rubbish station, although the 'Metal Notes' show on Tuesday nights is usually fairly good.

It was a shame that Today FM got rid of Alice Cooper and replaced it with 70's disco nonsense on Saturday nights.

FM104 on the other hand seem to play alot of Nirvana for some reason.

yup but if your going to play nirvana you have to play metallica... play metallica you play all the other emo crap and thus the cycle repeats of rubbish rock music...

We have to get a rock station going, be it on the web live or via podcasts...

We have a national station that is dedicated to classical and Jazz. I'm pretty bloody sure these are minority music genres. Are the powers that be pandering to a small minority who come mainly from the upper classes? Rockers would greatly outnumber classical and jazz fans so why not a station dedicated to rock, album tracks etc? The whole thing leaves me thinking there is a lot of snobbery in this country regarding rock music.

Are they not planning a classic rock station? Think its in the tender (or whatever ya call it) stage, the owners of Phantom are going for it

the metal notes show is well worth a listen. plays a wide range of rock/metal. heard stuff as varied as gallagher, stepphenwolf,Zep to slayer sepultura etc. Think he puts the playlist on the phantom website.
it's on a monday by the way ...
