Hi guys, I need to learn as much about Unix systems administration in as little time as possible! I have some experience of Unix systems as a user, mostly in Ubuntu and Mac OS, so I know the basics of shell scripting (in Bash), the file system, and the like.

I realise systems administration is not something you can pick up overnight but I need to learn some of the theory ASAP so if anyone could tell me where to find a lightweight beginner's guide I'd be very grateful. It would need to cover file storage, web servers and network administration. Sorry if my needs sound brash and audacious but any advice would be welcome!

Try doing my job for a week. :)

Seriously, try some of the O'Reilly books. Also, don't get hung up on the likes of a web server - its only an application after all, same concept as if it were running on Windows.

The Linux Documentation Project might be a good place to start.

At http://tldp.org/guides.html there's some full length books to read - HTML and PDF format.
http://tldp.org/LDP/sag/html/index.html might be the one you're looking for.

Linux In A Nutshell by O'Reilly (old but has been revised several times) is a decent starting point, methinks.

Decent-sized admin series in Linux Format every month. Some articles available for free on their site.
