Ipod AV Cable Query

Am new to this forum so feel free to direct me if this is a common query - somehow I think I'm not the first.... I just bought what I thought was an AV cable which would allow me to connect up my ipod to the tv and watch photos as a slideshow/videos. I'm not sure which generation my ipod is - I got it in March from US and it's an 80GB and plays videos...colour screen.

The cable I got has one end which fits in the earphone socket of the ipod and 3 'plugs' for the front of the tv - white red and yellow.

I assumed because it was probably a recent version that the cable would work, but all I get is music - no pictures. When I flick to slideshow it asks to turn select TV on, which I do, but then a picture of a connection (from bottom of ipod as opposed to ear phone jack) appears on the ipod screen and it won't connect to tv.

Am I just setting it up wrong, or have I the wrong piece of equipment? I also tried it through a PHilips system which has an ipod dock and an aux. point where the earphone jack fitted in...still no good.

    Any suggestions welcome? Thanks

Bought an AV cable recently. The guy shop tried selling me the same type of connection as yourself. I don't know if it actually supports video. I said I'd heard of the cable I wanted using the connection point where you charge the ipod. Thats the one I ended up buying. Personally I'm not too sure that the one you have supports video.

Just did some searching on the web. The latest generation of ipods don't output video through the headphone jack. You need the cable that connects through the docking port.

Thanks Koth - did that searching myself too and found that just the most recent 6G ones won't work through headphone socket. DH has an older i-pod (which I hadn't tried) and tried it out on that - no bother. Worked a dream, but of course it's not a video i-pod. At least I know now what I need but have something to play photos with in the meantime. Thanks
