Everyone here has high paying jobs, that's how we can afford to keep watching so many new anime flown direct from Japan on DVD week after week.

Read the charter. Bleach is a licensed series, so don't ask us to commit a crime for you...

As tman says, Bleach is a licensed anime. I will not lock the thread to allow you to discuss where you might find the best deal but I do not want talk about torrents or direct download sites - or buying subs off someone who has held onto them since the anime became licensed.

    I didn't link torrents, did I?
    No links to DDL, either.

So why'd my post get deleted?
Because I have the gall to admit that I find the anime companies' unwillingness to change a kick in the teeth (thank you , €90-100 Azumanga boxset!*)?
Because I simply stated that they can take their overpriced, 4-episodes-for-€30 boxsets & shove them, while I "illegally" download & wait for a business model where I don't have to 1-to-infinity years before I can legitimately (and EXPENSIVELY!) get my anime fix on out-dated DVD media?

I mean hell, why the would I even buy Gurren Lagann on DVD , 480p "quality", when I can get better-than-720p off the 'net?
If it was available on iTunes, no rental, at 720p, within 1 month of Japan, that'd be perfect.
Alas, until that day, I'll stick to my "bad" habits.

    GGPO

    *edit*
Oh yeah, anyone who sells you subs is a scumbag -- look at the splash screen from any good subbing group, "not for sale, rent or eBay".
    *fin*

*extra edit = yes, I bought the boxset. Bloody Xmas time... does strange things to your money <_<

I found the way you mentioned costs plus the OPs request for buying a possible issue - it is good to see that I am wrong but I did not want potential subs being given a suggested price :)

How odd as I can pick up the Azumanga boxset for €34.99. Brand new and 100% legally.

    Hmm... ok.
Point still stands on 4eps/disc "volumes" though.

Doesn't solve the problem with newer series not getting a cheap *legal* DDL/Blu-Ray release @720p either.

*edit* Except for Gonzo, IIRC. But more stuff needs to be brought out like this!

    ... man I need sleep.

You are making good points. I almost bought the Paranoia Agent Box set a few days back, til I saw the price. (€70 for 13 episodes? GTFO!)

But they are slowly changing. Gonzo with their free, online English subs, and there are more companies distributing 13 episodes to a volume, tough only really for Naruto.

Hell, even if it is lowly DVD quality, releasing ten episodes of Gurren Lagann subbed only was a brilliant move by Bandai. Even if 8 was a more natural break point for the show.

With more and more distribution companies getting into trouble, we can only hope that some more of them wake up and start doing more than sub, cheap dub, release in four episode chunks. Hell, I've been waiting for a region 2 Eureka 7 boxset for years now!

Lets look at the Japan DVDs then, where anime originates from.

To buy all the episodes of Gurren Lagann in Japan would cost you €288

To buy all the episodes of Gurren Lagann in America would cost you €48

Who is getting ripped off now?

The time between releases is still a problem though but not everything can be licenced straight away as who knows if it will be popular?

Hence why you need to do online distribution -- the costs should be lower as you're not having to print & distribute physical media, which then also has to compete for shelf space with other shows (e.g. CSI etc).
Additionally, you can keep a good show available for much, much longer - no more limited print runs!

As for Japan -- well, you know what they say about otaku...
