One of the most interesting people to emerge in the world of applied karate ever. He died in 2001. I have been putting together the guts of a site in his memory since 2003 and am close to going live in 2009.
If anyone has any media in relation to him it would be appreciated. I am interested in anything from photo's to stories of meeting the man or from people who were inspired by him.
You either know who he is or you dont. Any info would be appreciated!!!
please pm me or contact me through the form site on wexmma.com

First met Gary when Frankie McConville and myself were on the flight to Thailand for the world amateurs in 1997. Apparently Gary was a big fight fan and was going over to see some of the fights. Great craic and what a story teller.

I was walking down the street in Galway and who do I see casually walking down the street but Gary and walked up to him to say hi. He told me he was doing some close protection work and was just on a break and couldn't talk but invited me down to his hotel for a drink and a chat that evening. Had a great couple of hours with him, including a storey about a lift, 5 Welsh rugby players and Gary:).

Anyway, I had never had the chance to train with him and asked him about organising a course (cause he doing feck all public training then) in Ireland and he gave me his number and told me to contact him as he'ed love to do it. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks later, Gary had passed away and never got the chance. I'd love to see the site when its done burty, please post it up when you've a chance

I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ON SOME OF THE LAST "APPLIED KARATE " COURSES AND WAS GUTTED TO HEAR THAT HE HAD PASSED AWAY. ITS GREAT THAT HE IS GETTING SOME LASTING RESOURCE / RECORD OF HIS LIFE . I HAVE HEARD THAT A COUPLE OF HIS FRIENDS ARE TRYING TO GET A BOOK TOGETHER BUT NOT SURE IF THIS IS TRUE . THERE ARE SUPPOSEDLY STILL SOME OF HIS STUDENTS STILL TEACHING THE STYLE OF FIGHTING ON MERSEYSIDE . I KNOW GARY SANDLAND DOES . I WOULD APPRECIATE UPDATES ON WHEN THE SITE WILL BE UP AND RUNNING , MANY THANKS
