I have taylor made Racs with stiff shafts for the last year,im hitting them well but would like to change them for a more "advanced set".
I really like the look of Mizunos, not as keen on Callaways.Any ideas?

By the way im off 12 and have no problem with long irons or distance.

Hey man, playing off 12, like the look of Mizuno, not a bad ball striker, don't like the chunky look of the Callaway, ya gotta be looking at the MX-25's, forged heads with a nice size cavity for that bit of forgiveness we all need, but have a lovely asthetic look of a near blade, and of course the MP-57, more blade like with less cavity, very like the mp-60 with more offset. Both very playable.:p

if looking at callaway then the x-tour or x-forged might suit you. not really at all 'chunky'

I just bought the new Titleist AP2s (project X 5.5 shafts) and they are terrific. Look brilliant at address and feel great on good hits while giving you good feedback on poorly struck shots. I was a bit iffy about the aesthetics initially but now really like the look of these clubs. Definitely look at the reviews which all seem to be positive and try them out at your local shop. I see Adam Scott and Ben Curtis are converts to them.

    Hi Kinetic,

I was in the same boat back at the start of the summer. Tried a whole load of demo irons and borrowed clubs before deciding. I wrote this which might be of some help to you...

    http://aprettygoodmistake.blogspot.com/2008/08/review-taylor-made-tour-burner-irons.html

I play off 5 and made a decision to go with something more forgiving. Bigger irons have come a long way since the old Callaway X-10s and when I saw the likes of Damien McGrane with a chunky set of irons it sealed the deal for me.

So I ended up with the Taylor Made Tour Burners which are medium in size but look very neat behind the ball and, imortantly for me, don't hit it overly high especially when put together with the Project X 6.0 shafts I have in them (unflighted) which make them very versatile clubs.

Anyway, your preference is smaller clubs so what I came accross the other day was the Tour Burner Irons I have in a Tour Preferred version. I think they're only out in Japan at the moment but if you google them I'm sure you'll find something.

If you do want something smaller, and they're anything like mine, I'd highly recommend them.

they can do, however project x are just the latest thing that a lot of manufacturers are specing in irons aimed at lower handicap players. I also have them in my irons. However they came with them off the shelf. They are grand but not a big step forward from std rifle shafts imo.

Agree with cop, PX shafts are only marginally better than the old Brunswick Percision Rifles but the slight changes (slightly lighter, more solid feeling, higher kick-point) have made them much better than anything else out there in a lot of people's opinion.

I wouldn't call them a fad or gimmic. In fairness, the last time so many manufacturers had one standard issue shaft lasted about 20 years with the Dynamic Gold!
