Rental allowance eligibility

I'm on the dole and would like to move into a house sharing with students. Main reason for this is the free broadband, nice conditions, sky tv etc. Would I be eligible for the rental allowance? I know the landlord accepts it and I know him personally so its not a problem...I've seen other threads mention the Community Welfare Officer to ask but I don't know where or who this person is!

The community Welfare Officeer works for the Health Service Executive. Ring your local HSE office, tell them where the house is and they will be able to direct you to the CWO assigned to that area.

If you are on the dole and sharing you are entitle to rent allowance provided the rent isn't over a certain amount. it varies from HSE area to HSE area. so check with the CWO.

You may also have to apply for local authority accomodation before you can claim rent allowance. All this entails is filling out the relavent form at the local town hall.

EDIT: I see that you are in Limerick.

If you are on the northside, your CWO is in Ballynanty health Centre
Southside it will either be St. Brendans on Edward Street or Southill House.

Call in to Catherine Street office of the HSE to find out which CWO is for you. It is the big grey building accross the road from where the High Stool used to be.
