Hi, just moved into a house for college, and we're looking to get chorus TV and broadband, but the minimum contract is 12 months and we'll only be in the house until next may or june.

What do most people normally do? Get the landlord to put their name on the account, and just pay the money to them?

I'd have no problem putting it in my name, but what happens when the time comes to move out, and it can't be cancelled because there's another 3 months left to run on the contract?

You just have to pay the extra 3 months (unless the next renters agree to take it over).

You might be able to cancel it with a penalty as well, say to Chorus up front that you are only here for 9-10 months and see what they offer.

Most broadband/phone contracts (not tv) are minimum 6 months.

If you buy the modem / equipment there is usually no minimum contract - but check what they are offering.

Alternatively, go with a wireless solution that you can take with you when you leave.
