To Amsterdam or not to Amsterdam

That is the question, is it one of those places you really have to go while you're still young or should it be avoided regardless of what age you are?

I'm undecided, I would have prefered to go elswhere but a bunch of friends really want to go there. I presume they want to see the sites;)

Is it an expensive place to stay?

It's absolutely nothing special but it's a place you have to go once imo.

It costs about as much as Ireland in terms of food & drink - maybe a little cheaper.

Amsterdam is fine just avoid the hookers, you could catch anything literally, being young or because your friends are doing it is not an excuse. One 15mins of embarrassing fumbling could leave you regretting it for the rest of your entire life. Strippers are non contact are fine, read this thread to see the effects of Amsterdam.

I would skip Amsterdam and go to somewhere like The Hague or Utrecht. Much nicer.

I've decided not to go, reading the reviews for some of the hotels there and I'd be afraid someone would try to steal my kidneys while I slept.

If this is a serious comment then you are being far too paranoid. Anyone with common sense will do fine.

I was there in March this year and I stayed in this hostel and had zero problems. We were probably the most disruptive when we were getting into bed at 4am lol.
