losing appetite

    Howdy,

I started training for my first 5k race two weeks ago (never jogged before) and I've found I don't seem to have any appetite anymore.

I have a bowl of porridge in the mornings or sometimes two boiled eggs with some wholemeal bread but I'm finding I can't finish it now and don't get hungry for hours

is this a coincidence or does this usually happen?

I find that I get hungry half-way through a training run, so it's not typical for me! I'm also eating more than ever. :)
I do find that the protein recovery drinks kill my appetite very quickly.

You've probably heard someone talking about lose of appetitie and over training. Yes over training does cause a lack of appetite. So do really hard and long sessions - if I go for a 3 hour ride I'll be starving at the end. If I go for a speedy 6 hour ride I won't be hungry.

Unless you're overtrained (unlikely as you just started training) or hitting it really hard I doubt that the two are linked.

It seems fairly constant (the lack of appetite) but it started the day after my first run and even on rest days it's the same..

I do get hungry but not half as often and can't eat half as much

I thought it might be increased metabolism or something

increased metabolism would result in an increased appetite.

If concerned I'd go to a doctor as a lack of appetite can be something more worrying.
