I found this article interesting for anyone interested written in US - Europe contrasts. Written on UCL , but applies as much to TCD I think

    Overseas, overpaying and over here
International students don't just increase the bank balances of British universities, says John Sutherland - the exchange of different ways of learning is also valuable

That article was a bit silly. American unis have been admitting foreign students for years without worrying about the quality of the education. That's actually rather blatantly offensive, to suggest that admitting foreign students waters down a "product". Xenophobe much? And American students can indeed write essays. If they can't, they should be weeded out during the admission process.

Well we took very different things out of the article then. I didn’t read American unis are worrying over quality and foreigners. And it didn’t say American students can’t write essays. Just the perspective is different on each side of the Atlantic, And the teaching is different. And especially - it is the whole purpose of the article - we can learn from the differences, even if that proves frustrating at times.
An interesting philosophical perspective for new starters from the US at TCD I think... that is why I put it there.

What I was saying was that by comparison, American unis don't mind foreign students so why should it be an issue in England? And this is the quotation about essays:
When it comes to writing, American students have difficulty understanding the 'essay' concept.

So patronizing, too. He sort of redeemed himself a bit at the end, but overall I think it was a bit odd.

Dude you can't even post on a forum properly. Should you really be complaining about other students?
