hi, I'm living in Trim, Co. Meath, and am thinking of moving jobs and working near Tara St. I know it sounds crazy, but I can't stand where I am at the moment.

What's the best way to get to Tara St by train? I'm thinking of driving to Maynooth or Clonsilla and commuting from there.

    Any advise would be appreciated.

Clonsilla would be the logical and nearest station though parking is at a premium in the vicinity of the station; ditto for Coolmine and Blanch stations. I'd suggest you head on to Phoenix Park station, it's a tad further but you have a larger park to hand though. An alternative to Maynooth is Kilcock but again parking at either station is hard to get.

Is the bus from Trim of any use to you?

Thanks for that! yes, I heard parking can be a problem at these stations. Is the Phoenix Park station the new one they built just off the N3 near Castleknock?

I suppose I could try the bus. I presume this goes into Busaras?

Bus is your best option. Pretty good range of bus times on the route now though there are delays at peak times.

Most buses in the morning go up to Stephen's Green and depart from BusArus in the evening.

there are only a few cars using this stn. As far as i'm aware this stn is pay and display and that seems to be the reason why the car parks fairly empty all the time.
buses are grand but in saying that it can take anything from and hour to one and a half hours getting in if your getting the bus from castleknock or further a field.
as for the train it's known locally as the calcutta express.

The 0645 and 0715 buses ex-Trim serve St Stephen's Green.

    Returning buses are ex-Busarus.

What about Enfield? Its only around ten miles away from Trim and there's a good and not very busy road linking it to Trim. Likewise Kilcock.

Compared with driving to Phoenix Park it may work in less time. Worth a try some day.

Pay parking will be introduced at all train stations between Connolly and Longford within weeks so it's a short term game trying to avoid parking costs. The fee will be €400 per annum, and paying will not guarantee a parking space.

Regarding Enfield station, there are only about 30 parking spaces so you'll probably end up having to park somewhere else in the village.
Watch out for saddo busybody brigades if you do this. Not aware of an active brigade in Enfield, but in Maynooth I benefitted from scratches on my car and threatening notices / solicitors letters when I tried to park on-street.

Some day, if I have more money than sense, I'll buy a house in that Maynooth estate and rent it out to the most noisy obnoxious drunken students I can lay my hands on, and laugh like a maniac from morning till night. Especially at night.

    Anyway:

There are only 2 trains from Enfield to Dublin in the morning, one of which terminates in Connolly.
The last train home to Enfield in the evening is at the ridiculous time of 7.05pm, and departs from Connolly.
From what I know, most Enfield people get the bus to Dublin and avoid the abysmal train "service".

Kilcock enjoys the same train "service".
