Im going off to California this weekend, and have booked all of my accommodation with the exception of a 3 night stay in san francisco, had anyone any recommendations on a good place to stay in a decent area around the $150 per night mark?

I stayed around the Fort Mason/ Marina area, and I thought that was great, pretty central.

We stayed in a Hostel Though.

a friend of mine stayed Here and had no problems and thought it was pretty nice.

    Yes,
there is an excellent family run hotel in union square called hotel des artes,
each room is painted differently by a different artist and it has a cool feel to it
its in a great location also.
it was just 50 dollars a night for my parents last march,
we inquired to stay a fortnight ago but it was 100 dollars a night for august.
I'd say it should be cheaper now,
dont be put off by the cheap price it is because they are not part of a chain, and do not advertise,
word gets around by word of mout, but the guardian featured it in its list of the top 10 budget hotels in the world.

    good luck.
sorry i wrote this in a hurry on my ipod.

We just got back from a 4 night stay in SF, we stayed in the Chacellor Hotel on Union Square, it is no. 4 rated on Trip Advisor and it did not disappoint. It is located right on Union Square which is the main shopping area and the cable cars run right past your door which take you down to Fishermans Wharf/pier 39 area in 5-10 mins. The hotel was really lovely and decorated tastefully in a boutique style. The staff were really friendly and helpful as well. We paid $145 per night, it is normally around the $200 mark, but I emailed the manager through the hotel website and he reduced the price and included $25 per day dining credit. If you could get it at a similar price, I would book it in a heartbeat. Enjoy, SF is a lovely city.

Ps. If you plan to use public transport, make sure you get a MUNI card. It is $18 for three days, but allows you free travel on the buses, metro and cable cars. The cable cars alone are $5 per single trip, so it pays for itself before very long.

    I hope my hotel wins.
I will probably take it personally if not, I am like that.
