Tis true. ITV gave up the contract early.
Thread about it here including commentator speculation.

I also understand that Richard Hammond (The Hamster from Top Gear!) is also earmarked for a commentating role with BBC. The fact that the GP going back to the Beeb is welcome news. Whilst ITV's commentators are quite good - and Brundle in particular - the quantity and timing of their ad breaks, and their total bias towards Lewis Hamilton really blight their coverage. Poor Jenson Button and DC don't get a look in any more.

I don't think Hammond is going to be doing commentary but instead will fill the Steve Ryder role.

Rumours are that the BBC will pick one of their existing Five Live commentators. So that would be either David Croft or maybe Jonathan Legard will come back for TV. Question is who will they pick for their driver pundit. Will it be Brundle? Coulthard has some time on his hands.

Hmm, I don't really bother watching f1 anymore (kept putting me to sleep), but James Fookin Allen was the worse thing about the ITV coverage, Please Please tell me this will be the end of him commentating for F1 :):)

It was a sad day when he took over in the commentary box. Even his replacement as whipping boy, Ted "Lenny" Kravitz is better.

Hopefully the grid walk is kept before the GP with the BBC - can be quite interesting and entertaining at times!

Ugh I am also hoping for the end of James Allen and Ted what's his face wouldn't be sorry to see the back of louise goodman either. Mainly I'm just hoping Martin Brundle goes over. Would prefare him over Coulthard also.

While I think Martin Brundle is ok, he's also a huge part of the Hamilton-biased commentary on ITV.

Personally I hope the BBC have a whole new team, one that can manage to be objective and not show any bias towards teams or drivers. Sadly, I doubt my hopes will turn to reality.
