Alright, I need some help. I just got my 1000H today, and, despite it being a lovely piece of kit, I have one problem. Noise. There is a constant whirring emanating from the laptop, seems to be coming from slightly left of centre when I'm using it. I'm not sure whether it's the fan or the harddrive, but it's really quite annoying, and surprisingly loud. It's very noticeable in a silent room, and can be heard easily over typing.
Has anyone come across this issue, and could anyone help me with it at all? Cheers.

Moved into it's own thread as I reckon it will get lost in the eeepc thread.

Thanks. I've found Eeectl, which has allowed me to change the fan settings.. but it still seems fairly loud. I'm also worried that the computer will overheat, especially on my lap in bed, since the 1000H's ventilation is beneath.

You should never place any laptop directly on bed clothes if you are using it, apart from overheating it can also be a fire hazzard if you fall asleep. I have the EEE 900 and have already commented about its high pitched fan.

Does that eeectl program not tell you the cpu temp though, so you can keep an eye on that if it's a concern. My eee 701 has that whirring fan noise you're talking about as well. I think it's common across the board.

I updated to the latest BIOS and it seems to have helped somewhat. I guess I'll keep eeectl to tell me the CPU temp. How would I make it start up whenever the computer boots? Currently I have to start it manually.

Are these noisy EEE's ones with HDD or SSD, or either?
