I would say it might not be the best of ideas - but to be honest, no one here is qualified to tell you yes or no for certain.

If in doubt, get yourself sorted out at the Passport Office tomorrow: http://www.dfa.ie/home/index.aspx?id=254#person

thanks for that, the problem isits actually my girlfriends passport and she is in Limerick and passport up here in dublin.

I reckon this must happen a fair bit with passports lasting 10 years ... i dont know of anyone who has traveled with one though

It is a crap shoot to be honest. You know how paranoid the US authorities are. I would say it would depend entirely on which official you get on the day.

My brother was travelling to Portugal earlier in the year and his passport was the same. They wouldn't let him through Dublin airport.
Im travelling in a few weeks and mine was the same so I got a new one to be safe.
    Probably depends on luck tbh.

Same thing happened to me just before I was to go to Germany a few years ago. Passport had accidentally went through the wash and it was so badly damaged that I could actually lift the plastic cover and take my picture out. I used a bit of pritt-stick to hold it together on the way out but on the way back I got stopped and questioned every time I had to show my passport. I was probably lucky because it was an EU country but customs in Germany and Ireland just said to get it replaced when I got home. I've been to America and I think you would be mad to try and get through with a damaged passport. They'll simply turn you around and you'll lose all the money you paid for your flights. I reckon the least you should is bring it into the passport office on Molesworth st. and show it to them to see what they think?

You would be looking at €125 for a same day passport.

    I have a similar problem

I damaged my passport with water a few years ago-It wasn’t too bad at first, but I have travelled a lot and with wear and tear it looks pretty bad now-The pages are all water stained and the corners of the info page are turning up, and i could probably get my picture out if i tried!
Because I was travelling, i have not really had a chance to get a new passport, and i didn’t really think this damage was a problem, until I was at the airport in Sydney and they didn’t want to let me travel on it. (they let me in the end), Ever since, any airport I have been to have made remarks, but always let me through. It’s getting me pretty paranoid that I will be stopped some day!

Anyway, to make it more complicated (and didn’t really know where to post this) I am in Canada on an IEC 1 year visa, trying to stay for a few years after that too, I want to get a new passport once and for all, need to know how to go about it, if/how long the delays in passport office are, has anyone had to get a new passport while one work visa, etc???

    Any help would be great!!

If you are in Canada you will need to apply via the embassy in Ottawa. Takes about 6 weeks. Contact them for the forms required.
