I bought this (Dell Outlet Studio 17/1735 Laptop)

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055369854

at around 130am this morning without doing enough homework.
I dropped into PC World this afternoon to see how big similar 17"s are and after initial concerns about the gaming ability of the laptop I am convinced I dont want it due to its collossal size!I sent an email reply to my initial order confirmation stating that I wanted to cancel the order immediately (15 hours or so after placing it and money not yet deducted from Credit Card -Visa wont cancel payment...)

So I intend to ring them tommorow -Outlet phoneline shuts at 4pm apparently....Will I be able to cancel and get refund hassle free or is this gonna be akward/impossible?Should be well able to sell it anyway without much loss or even make a few bob on it ....????2.1GHz/4Gb/ATi3650/LED screen 'Topo' with red trim.Thanks.

Only thing you can do is ring them and see. I'd say you'll be alright.

I'd say your wrong. A mate picked a pink laptop from the dell outlet lately. Rang them an hour later and was told "no chance" They probably had it on the shelf for ages.

I had a similar situation with a friend, ordering off outlet and there was no problem, cancelling, this was about a year ago mind you.

I cancelled an orde ron Outlet yesterday (Tuesday 2nd September) after placing it on Saturday evening (30th August).

I emailed the contact who sent me my the Dell booking reference. In my case that email was hilary_kavanagh[at]dell.com

She replied within an hour advising that she had requested a cancellation. I also phoned them at 01 204 4100. After navigating the menu system there, a rep gave me my Dell order number, I was then able to phone again and ask another rep to cancel the order. I took both routes just to be sure.
Got a confirmation email this am telling me that the order is now cancelled.

Looks like i'm wrong from all the other replies. Maybe because it was pink that my mate couldn't cancel

Haha, no worries, seems odd, that's what your mate gets for choosing a horrid colour:p:pac::)

Well I got it cancelled ok on foot of an email I sent them yesterday
...without checking my emails I rung this morning to cancel (thought it best to do both )I must have spoken to at least 20 Dell (mostly Indian?) employees trying to convince them that I had placed an order for a laptop on Outlet .They just kept telling me they had no record of an order being placed.I felt pretty stupid when I checked my emails ...
I suppose I should be gracious ...the great likelihood is that they did nothing wrong but their phone system did not seem like somewhere I would like to have to visit too often ...I travelled in a figure of 8 of loops with the occassional dead end ...or endless pit )At 1130 am I got a message saying the phone service was only open between 9am and 5pm and to please call back when it was open !!!
Like I said though they DID cancel the order so I supose they probably purged all records of it but I cant help wonder if the order would have ever actually arrived ....Ive read that this sort of thing happens a bit ...You call them in a month wondering when your laptop is arriving and they say you never ordered one ...
I know it must be infuriating for them to read this kind of comment but the Indian phone team really are not a patch on the one or two Irish or (dare I say it "even") other European support staff .They just sound like they are reading from a script ...I actually even think they were READING responses like "Youre Welcome !" When I would say thank you when I was being put through to yet another person -there was a long ,unnatural pause before they would reply!!!(No it wasnt long distance phone 'lag' the rest of the call was fine in that regard )
Take this howler for example :
Me "Hello Im calling you from the Republic of Ireland about a laptop order I wish to cancel"
Reply "Are you in Great Britain or the Republic of Ireland ?"
This is the sort of stuff I mean ...I know these people work for a fraction of the rates of 'Western' countries but it shows and I reckon the companies who outsource like this must loose as much money as they gain as a result.
I wouldnt mind if you could just ring up and talk to someone who had a clue but it seemed like pot luck and that 4 out of 5 staff were in Indian call centres.
The only thing worse than that 'fake ' american phone 'customer service' voice and language is when its combined with someone who has a poor grasp of english .Its just a breath of fresh air to speak to an Irish /English or even (sorry !again the "even"!) friendly ,enthusiastic and sincere sounding European person .
I hope this doesnt sound racist ...Id hate to think it did .
I like the finishes of the latest Dells ...would love a red XPS1330 but 8400GS aint gonna cut it for the games Im into...Its a pity the way there seems to be far less individuality and customisability about laptops ....Id love to be able to build my own ...Also I dont reckon the Dells are worth the non Outlet prices ...

    Glad ya got it sorted.

since your ranting about how bad dell are i'd like to throw in my 2 cents. Even though I like Dell and will buy off tthem again.

Ordered off the outlet last Tuesday. No confimation emails received by Thursday. Rang to find the status of order. They have no records. Told to resubmit another order. I decided to give it a few days. Laptop arrived on Monday. Still no record with Dell but my Credit card has been charged. weird

I hope they dont charge my card after cancellation! It seems you are caught between a rock (flammable 8600 cards?) and a hard placew (inferior ATi cards )with the Dell 15"s right now
