I've been invited to a stag weekend in Carlow in a few weeks time. It shouldn't be too mad as the grooms brother in laws will all be there.

Can anyone give some advice on what we cn do, where to go etc.

    Thanks

    Check out http://www.carlowtourism.com/
There's quite a few golf clubs nearby and if you go to Borris you can do quad biking, clay-pidgeon shooting and canoeing

More golf at Kilkea Castle http://www.kilkeacastlehotelgolf.com

There's karting in Kiltorcan south Co. Kilkenny http://www.kiltorcan.com/ about 50min drive AFAIK.

Curragh and Gowran race courses are not too far away either (1/2hr).

Not aware of other activities in Carlow except snooker/pool, bowling and of course, drinking. :D

    [Edit]
Also paintball only 1/2 hr away in Stradbally http://www.supershot.ie

    Sounds good guys, thanks.

What pubs should we go to/avoid?

What's carlow nightlife like, any chance of clubbing til 3, a lap dance and a kebab?

Kebabs not a problem there, clubs pubs etc. for a stag you'll be looking for Scraggs and the Foundry, the dome is in Graigucelln up the road if ye fancy arcade bowling etc. ;)

for pubs I'd say med bar, barracks, scraggs, tullys and leverette & frye.
    then it'll be foundry time.
clubs close at 2, there's no lap dancing clubs so you'll have to convince a few of the locals to do that for you (ask the girls first) and the kebabs shouldn't be too hard to track down.

If ye fancy eatin before the serious drinkin there are 3 chinese, 3(4) Italian, 2 indian and 1 thai eating spots plus a few 'normal' ones within a couple mins walk of those pubs.

For post drinkin soakage there's a few fast-food burger joints, a Sub-way and a hot-dog stand. For the kebab you might have to walk a bit further (if the pins allow) to Barrack St. for Abrakababra or that Turkish take-away.

    Great advice lads, thanks.

Looks like Scraggs followed by the foundry is the answer. would it be easy for 15 blokes to get in? usual rules I guess, don't turn up together, stand up straight shirts and jeans still on etc etc

I've never seen that happen in carlow tbh.
I presume you're talking about the ratio of men to women?
Aslong as ye all have ID and ye can all pretend to be sober(ish) i don't see a problem.

That's mostly true :) It's very rare to be refused to a Carlow pub. As for ratio... as a female of the species it sucks to be in Carlow!! There's about 7 girls for every 1 guy..... (Could make the stag party interesting though!!!!)

The Foundry is a bit like that, i.e. if they see a bunch of drunken guys, they will generally have a word. Ive never seen it happen in a pub.

I think the Casino stays open til 3 and I think theres free drink there. So you get really drunk and lose all your money to them!

As the saying goes, there's no such thing as a free lunch :D

Thanks for all the advice, I'll let you know Monday how we got on.

    Cheers.

Nice town carlow, we really enjoyed ourselves. I was a bit of a let down and couldn;t get along until Saturday evening, but we had a few in Barracks and then went to the Foundry. That's a really good club (I think, I was a bit the worse for wear by that time:D).

Nice atmosphere in the town, no hassle at all. Cheers for all the advice.

Carlow sounds like a great place for a stag do. Mind you if word gets out about the 7:1 women:men ratio there'll be a few more parties heading your way I'm sure (brace yourself Starbeam!).

@Fred: Thanks for posting your post-stag experience, great to hear the stag was successful and there wasn't any agro.

@Slimjimc: thanks for all the info...I'll do a bit more research and might put an article up on TheStagDo.com about running a stag do in this area. A day at Curragh followed by a quality evening in Carlow sounds just the job.

    Cheers,
    James

Oops! Sorry Starbeam...I was writing it from (bad) memory - now I've seen you can read the thread below the post editing window. Doh!

I've now changed the original so that it makes more sense.
