Audi A3 Warning Light

    Hi all,
I have a bit of a strange problem. I was driving up north and the low oil light came on. I thought this as strange as I had only put in oil a few weeks ago. When I opened the bonnet, I could see oil on he under side of the bonnet, and upon closer inspection, I see that I did not replace the oil cap. So, I have ordered another off ebay, and is on it's way, and I put more oil in the car and the low oil warning light went off. But on my way home, my engine warning light (well the one that looks like a little engine, so I am guessing it is an engine light!) came on. How can I reset it, as I hope that once I put an oil cap back on, it will be fixed. Or what sort of problems could I be causing for myself??

Is it correct to conclude that you are currently driving around with the cap missing? If so STOP!

Well it will obviously piss oil all over the engine bay. Main concern is contaminants getting into the oil. Avoid sandstorms until you get the new cap, then get an oil change and pop the cap on and it should be fine.

to much rain in ireland to worry about sandstorms!! could the missing cap trigger the engine warning light?

A missing cap could make the pressure incorrect I would have thought = oil light.

    Not Your Ornery Onager

So, I have ordered another off ebay...
This is unbelievable, tbh. Why the hell didn't you just buy one and replace it immediately? :(

Jesus you would need to keep filling it every few miles if no cap on the oil. The engine bay must be destroyed. You could be ruining alot of your electrical connections with this oil and gunk getting around them. DONT drive. You could quite possibly be doing your engine damage by driving like this with the oil level going down low very often and dirt getting into it. Could you not pick one up at vw/audi garage or any garage

 This thread cant be real.

Seriously? The cap in an Audi/Vw garadge probably cost the same amount as the oil you splattered round the engine bay?

    Low oil levels = bad

Crap in the oil = bad

Warning light is triggered by low oil pressure = really bad

oil filler cap 20 quid in local motor factors. (using double the max price i found online)

Your gambling your engine for 20 quid.
