Installing a downlighter in a cabinet

    Hi,
I am putting a downlighter into a dresser unit that will be plugged into the mains. Two questions,
Is this ok to do/safe to do..?
And secondly, is there a special cable I need to use to do this..? Or will just regular cable suffice with a low amp fuse in the plug..?

    Thanks for your help.

is it a cabinet light and not a ceiling downlight? there are special ones for cabinets that have a little more heat protection for the lamp. Lights should really be fed from a lighting circuit, I know that you have lamps around the house fed from the sockets, but a fixed lighting point (fitted/screwed down or up) is looked at differently to a portable device. So see if you can feed it from a lighting supply and make sure its a cabinet light.
I know its more work but its the right way.
However if someone did approach it in the way you suggested (not the way to do it), a 3 or 5 amp fuse in the plug using stranded flex cable would be better than a 13 Amp plug with standard PVC PVC cable.
