Welcome to the club sinead, I agree this is beautiful piece of gear... and it is worth your soul really :D
    Did you get body only?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,263 ✭✭✭✭Borderfox

Good stuff Sinead, pictures like no other digital camera. There is definitely something special about shots from the 5d and even better given how old it is.

    Enjoy

fair play Sinead...I'm holding out for the replacement (unless it's mad expensive, in which case I'll be getting a 5D :D)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,319 ✭✭✭sineadw

Thanks all :) Yep - body only, and without the grip. Aforementioned grubby hands seem to fit better without it.

@cambo - I asked Albert how much extra he was expecting the replacement to be and he said about 30% more. I couldn't justify it myself. It'll be interesting to see what they upgrade in it though. Word is it'll be announced this month. I was going to wait, but then I decided not to :P

Superb camera no matter what the upgrade has, can be compact as with no battery grip and a 50mm f1.4 and the images it helps you produce are out of this world.

You will certainly enjoy it.. :)

    50D or 5D ¿?

yeah, the upgrade will have all the new bits - Digic IV, sensor cleaning etc etc. I hope they don't ruin the lovely image quality of the original...My teddy bear is almost full at this stage...:D so should be able to afford one, especially if it's a 30% premium on current prices...

You wont regret it Sinead. Forget about this ol' digic III and IV crack. They have not improved on the 5D quality. The opposite in fact, more unnatural colours in the new varieties IMVHO.

best of luck with it -- look forward to seeing it (and yourself) at the HWCH

The 5D is something special alright. It's that full frame sensor. You will be able to get outstanding A3+ enlargements without any perceivable loss of quality. There is a lot of talk about the replacement having 21MPs, more AF points, more FPS, better high ISO performance, etc. Frankly, speaking as someone who shoots mainly landscape and portraits, and who rarely goes beyond 200 ISO, I don't need more FPS and 21MPs, if true, is really over the top unless you want to produce *huge* prints.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Don't worry about prints. I've printed to A1 with no worries whatsoever, and to larger than A0, and was grand if you were standing a meter back or more. Go for it. :)

Well done Sinead. Fab it of kit. It'll serve you well. You've worked hard on your shots - you deserve it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,263 ✭✭✭✭Borderfox

There is something different about the files from the 5d compared to other cameras, I find JPEG shots are not too good and look a bit plastickey but the RAW files are out of this world..
