Going to be in LA for a few days next month. Anyone any reccomendations for somewhere to stay around the Hollywood area? If public transport is good then anywhere within LA would also be good.

    Title edited to make clearer.

LA's public transport is notoriously bad. Have you had a search for some the other LA threads on here? There has been a lot of recommendations made that you'll find useful

we stayed in Burbank last month while we were there. Its about 10 min drive to hollywood from there. It was called the Holiday travel lodge...very clean, with shops/restaurants right across the road. $85 a room per night including weekends. We ended up staying 5 nights there as it was so handy.

Stayed in Holly wood for 2 nights last month on sunset in the Zahara/Sahara(?!) motor inn (cannot remember the exact address, sunset goes on for miles so you shouls google it!) 140dollars a night for room with two double beds..(we slept 5in it..poor students!) The accommodation was very basic but was in a good enough location and it had a small outdoor swimming pool! theres tonnes of motels along sunset, that are within 10 mins of hollywood blvd that has all the touristy things like the walk of fame and grauman's chinese theatre! There are some hostels that are even closer but they were booked out when we tried to check in,since its peak tourist.
    Hope thats not too confusing!

Have just booked a hotel in LA in the last few mins.

After reading a lot of threads on here and spoken to people that had been there before, decided to stay in Santa Monica. Narrowed it down to three potentials there - The Georgian, Holiday Inn and Doubletree Suites.

Ended up going for Doubletree Suites.

Be sure to check whatever hotel you book has parking as you more than likely will have to rent a car to get around.

Stayed in LA this time last year for 3 nights. We stayed in the Sheraton beside Universal City. Was very reasonable and good access to public transport. Turned out to be a blessing seeing as you can't flag a taxi in LA.
Was very handy for getting to Universal City and five minute walk from the subway which got us to 'place with all the stars in the pavement' in five minutes.
Sorry, the name totally escapes me!

We have just returned from a 3 nights stay in LA. We stayed in the Hotel Hollywood Celebrity in Hollywood. It is rated number 7 on Trip Advisor for hotels in Hollywood and it didn't disappoint. It is on a quiet cul de sac, literally around the corner from Hollywood Boulevard, so in 2 mins you can be at the Walk of Fame, Manns Chinese Theatre, The Kodak Theatre, Hollywood and Highland shopping centre, the start of the hop on-hop off bus tour and the metro station which will bring you up to Universal Studios in 5 mins. It cost us $139 per night and that included free parking and free breakfast. The rooms are huge and have a little kitchenette area. They are a little dated, but very clean and comfortable. I could not imagine a better bargain in a better location.

I stayed in the Orange Drive Manor Hostel which was Two minutes walk to Chinese Theater, Walk of Fame, Kodak Theater, Hollywood Wax Museum, to the metro which is only 2 stops from Universal Studios.
It was clean, not too noisy at night, friendly people & good price
