just wondering has any1 here ever made any videos or done any work with poker training sites? i was approached by a reg on stars. (peter stepherson) hes an english guy and hes setting up a website called sitngogrinders.com he asked me if id be interested in making a couple of videos for the site. i said i would and so he sent me a few details about it. said id get my own blog etc. on the site and recieve x amount of the profits from each video. personaaly i doubt ill make much money from it but im gonna give it a go for the experience if nothing else.

any tips on making videos of urself playing would be appreciated as i was trying it out the other day and it felt really weird talking through a game.

Some teachers play the game, and then commentate over it after, if that's any help.

I did some for Meathmans new training site. First of all, get a good mic setup. This caused me no end of problems, make sure you get this set up before starting. Make sure you can hear your voice well, and there are no background noises.

Second, before you start make a few notes on what you want to cover. There is bound to be some periods when not much is happening on screen, you can discuss those issues during that. Its also a good idea to start by talking about what you are about to discuss, and doing a quick recap at the end.

This is excellent advice and a variation of what i was once told in writing any essay type thing,

say what you're going to say
    say it
    summarise it

Very clear really and will make for a good video

Never (Nicky Power did offer to help me make one at the weekend but he was somewhat inebriated at the time and offering lots of things to loads of people), but in a former life was an instructional trainer (computer software and other dull stuff). Most important thing is to have a very clear idea of the points you want to cover, and their relative importance. This stops you from meandering into minor points and ending up spending way too much time on them. And gl2me's summation of pedagogical best practise is spot on.

When someone sucks out on you, you're not to call him names. Don't use the f word. No saying "What a donkey / fish / moron." Don't talk too fast. The yanks won't be able to keep up. And "JAYSUS" is on the banned list as well.

Oh, and one more thing Mick, for the love of God, don't tell them what you think of them in the chat box. (I've seen you in action) :D

I know this thread is a bit old but since this thread's already here thought no need to open a new one, hope that's ok mods.

Similar to BigMick I've been approached to make a few vids for a new site pokerprolife.com

Some good tips on here. But was just wondering what you guys who make vids for the training sites typically do regards talking. Do you just play the tables and then review the vid and talk over it, or do you just talk your way through the vid or is it a mixture of both?

Oh yeah and any further tips would be mucho appreciated also :D

Try to focus on why you're doing what you're doing and not on what you're doing. You don't need to tell us that you opened KJ from MP, we can see it on screen. You need to say why you opening it and what factors you're taking into account: the CO and BTN are tighter than normal, there's a big fish in the blinds, there's a short stack still to act but he's playing pretty tight and short stacks generally give EP opens a lot of credit anyway, etc.

Likewise you don't need to tell us that you're cbetting. Tell us about the board texture, why you bet the amount you did, your reads on your opponent, what factors you'd have to change to make checking better, what you plan to do to a raise or what turns you're going to fire if he calls.

From my own experience I've found making videos extremely time consuming. I think the time of random midstakes pros throwing up 4 tables and talking for 45 minutes being acceptable are pretty much dead. Unless you're targeting micro stakes players, or players who are new to video training sites, expectations are generally going to be a lot higher and you'll have to put in a good bit of work to have interesting content ready to discuss.

If it's a newer sites they'll probably want to get a lot of videos up though so try not to be too perfectionist at the same time. However, not every video you'll record will be worth posting, sometimes nothing interesting will happen, sometimes there'll be technical issues. It can get pretty frustrating at times.

Cheers RJ. The vids are going to be targeted mainly for beginners. It's not a video training site, they just want to have a few vids on there, so overall it doesn't have to be perfect. tbh I started to try to do one yesterday and I won't quite say I didn't know what the hell I was doing but not far off :o. One good thing I think is that it really makes you think more about your own play - and made me realise that I've been randomly switching off while playing.

Anyway I suppose I'm just going to have perservere with it and hopefully will get the hang of it and come up with something reasonable at least.

Yeah, I'm working on a 3 part series at the moment which is going to cover basic poker math. There'll be a good bit of overlap with the thread I posted here, as well as some elaboration and new content.

Unfortunately, I've very little free time at the moment so it's taking a while to get finished.
