Lenovo Thinkpad SL500 - any reason not to buy?

I was thinking of getting this laptop from this site for college:
    http://www.dabs.ie/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=578G

It's been recommended to me, and seems like a solid choice. Just a couple of questions:

Is the four hours' battery life they cite accurate, and is it particularly short compared to other laptops?

The site describes the OS as:
    "OS Preinstalled Windows Vista
Type Microsoft Windows Vista Business / XP Professional downgrade"
Does this mean that it comes with the downgrade or does it just offer a downgrade? Because from what I hear, XP is the way to go. Basically, how would I go about downgrading?

Or if there are any other reasons for talking me out of buying this, go ahead...

    Cheers.
