    :(

So, I recently installed cakewalk sonar 6 on the laptop (vista), downloaded the relevant vista drivers for an edirol ua 25 USB interface and an edirol pc 50 midi keyboard.
So I connected the USB up to the laptop, opened cakewalk, and connected a guitar. Now I can get a level through the headphones, but can't get an input level on cakewalk at all. I'm sure it's something to do with my input settings, but I can't seem to find out what. When I go to audio/midi options I can see the edirol as the input etc. It's annoying me to hell. I've wasted hours trying to get things working, hours when I could be recording...

Can anyone help or point me in the right direction???

I'd guess you're getting your Edirol connected to your computer ok. However it's not being connected to your Software. Root around and see can you find where the input to the software is, which may be incorrectly set.

As I say, I'm guessing, as I don't even know how to spell 'PC'.

From what I've heard, Vista is a pig when it comes to DAW software.

Check your sytem32 folder to see if the ddl files are in there, then check control panel>system devices>sound and game controllers for the interface and see if there is an "x" beside it and while you are there, see if there are any conflicting drivers then right click the device and go to properties then update device drivers. Turn off anti virus software so it doesn't constantly scan every file you try to create.
Set a system restore point and when you are going through the wizard see what options it offers and see if you can roll back to before the problem started.

    OR GET A MAC!
Not trying to be a sm@rtArse but on a mac you would not have these problems. I used to run a windoze computer and spent more time trying to get things working than actual recording. Great fun when a paying customer is sitting there watching you try and troubleshoot a problem on their time.
I have been windows free for 8 years now.

yeah, f**k it, im getting rid of this. only got in january, and have spent more time trying to get drivers and optimize it etc etc. I have spent about 5 hours in total over the last 2 days trying to get things right (I'm sure half of it is me!). So, gonna cut my losses, try and shift this on, and get a used mac...:mad:

In our office a few years ago we got a batch of new PCs and it took us a day and a half to get the internet going using cable.

A couple of months later I bought a Mac Laptop as I was working/dossing a lot outside the office.

I turned it on, plugged the lead in........ Internet, and lots of it.

    I ain't turnin' back!

Vista's taking a while to catch up on the music front alright, and I will have to throw out my aging audio interface when I finally upgrade my studio machineas there will be no drivers for it. My office machine runs vista, and it works pretty well, once you get your head around it.

Remember how long it took for the software and hardware companies to get compatibility with Mac's OSX? It always takes a while for the music stuff to come right on a new OS. Most people start moving about 18 months after the release. OS9 to OSX, win95 to 98, win 98 to xp, and now xp to vista.

Have you called Cakewalk Support? It may take some time but, as a rule, my dealings with support guys have been very positive. It's very unlikely you're the only one with this problem.
