Nokia 1208 problems

I recently bought a nokia 1208. When I cross the border into northern Ireland the phone doesn't work in the same capacity that it works down south. namely: I can't lock the keypad, I can't write text messages, I can't enter the menu's through the conventional route (top left button) I can make and receive calls as normal…

I can make and receive calls as normal however.

Also sometimes sent messages don't get received by recipients despite the fact that they appear in the sent items folder as being sent.

Should I just bin it and buy a decent phone? or is there a remedy?
