Baggage query - Etihad

    Hi,
Just wondering has anybody flown with these before, just want to clear a few things up regarding baggage allowances.

    From the Etihad website
    "Carry-on Items (Weight Concept)

The following are classified as carry-on items:
    • Handbag, pocket book or purse
    • Overcoat, wrap or blanket
    • Umbrella or walking stick
    • Small camera and / or binoculars
    • A reasonable amount of reading matter for the flight
    • Infant food for consumption during the flight
    • Infant carry basket / carry cot
    • Collapsible wheelchair / crutches
    • Braces or prosthetic devices (provided the guest is dependent on them)
    • Briefcase or portable PC which is not being used as a container for transportation of articles, regarded as baggage — exception: laptop - not to be activated without flight crew knowledge / concurrence
    • Mobile phone — exception: not to be utilized during flight"

    Cabin baggage allowance
Etihad’s cabin baggage allowance for various Guest Travel Classes is as follows:

    Guest Travel
Classes Cabin Baggage per guest Maximum total dimensions
Diamond First Two pieces with a combined weight of up to 12 kg.
    115 cm each
Pearl Business Two pieces with a combined weight of up to 12 kg.
    115 cm each
Coral Economy One piece weighing up to 7 kg. 115 cm

If you’re travelling with an infant, you can carry an additional piece of baggage that contains essentials that your baby may need on the flight (clothes, nappies, food, soft toys, etc). The bag must not exceed 6 kg in weight and 115 cm in total dimensions.

    1. Does that mean that carry-on baggage should not exceed 5*5*4.5cm roughly? That seems awful small.
    2. If you have a bag does this mean you can't bring your laptop in the cabin?
    3. My ticket has a check in baggage allowance of 20kg. I was told on the phone if I became a guest and recieved a freq flyer number I could get an extra 10kg allowance. Should I get written confirmation of this or is the freq flyer no. at check in enough?
    4. Told on phone I could take golf clubs for free. Again should I get written confirmation of this before lugging them to the airport?

    Thanks for your time :o

I'm not sure where you're getting those dimensions from. From how I read it, once it's no longer than 115cm in it's longest dimension and meets the weight limit, it should be ok.
    2. If you have a bag does this mean you can't bring your laptop in the cabin?

From what I see, it appears to be that way if you are flying in Economy. One piece only, no more than 7 kilos. Business Class and above gets two pieces up to 12 kilos

I believe that's only true if you are Silver or Gold level.
    4. Told on phone I could take golf clubs for free. Again should I get written confirmation of this before lugging them to the airport?

I'd get confirmation. Their own information says to contact the local office for advice on sports equipment.

I thought 115cm total dimensions, as in muliply dimensions to get 115  ha ha thats reassuring anyway, plenty of room for stuff!

I wonder if you can bring a little rucksack with laptop plus a few other things in it as long as its less than 7 kg

I got in touch with them (London office, don't bother with ignorant Dublin office!). They're doing a promotion so 30kg has been confirmed for just joining.

Yes it is free for 1 golf bag (up to 15kg incl shoes) but you must confirm it first.

Well they seem pretty specific about it being one item. It'll depend on the staff on the day however, like most airlines.

Well cleared up the thing about cabin baggage dimensions. Its the sum of the lenght, width and height (ie. add them together instead of multiply!)
