Hi everyone hope ye're enjoying this beautiful day,

On my old del laptop when I used to look at a vid on Youtube, a little realplayer icon would pop up asking me if I wanted to download the video. This was really handy as I could save them onto my hard drive and look at them later without having to connect to the internet.

Now i have a mac however, and I can't seem to figure out how to download and save youtube vids so I can look at them offline. Any tips??

Copy and paste the url of the youtube video [you may have to change it from ie.youtube.com to just youtube.com] onto keepvid.com, then, if the option is there, select the "Download in High Quality" option to download the movie file.

    Like so:

If there is no High Quality option available, download the low quality FLV file, and convert it using iSquint.

Or try the DownloadHelper add-on for Firefox.

i'm pretty sure the thing you're talking about is the RealPlayer download thing, it should work the same as it's a browser add-on and nothing to do with the OS..... i think

I get the realplayer thing too. Works best with Safari as the name of the vid is passed too. But Firefox also works.

Just need Real player 11 to get this feature.

    I'm working running Firefox 3 and 10.5.4 and real player 11.0.0 (884)

Well, it's really simple, and you don't even need any additional piece of software.

    1) Open up a Safari browser window with the video you want to download. In the next few steps it'll really make life easier if it is the only browser window (or tab) you have open.

    2) Click Window -> Activity
Find the largest element of all, don't worry about it's name. As long as the video plays (and isn't fully pre-buffered), it's size will increase gradually, this helps you to locate it correctly.

    3) Click on it and <Cmd + C>

    4) Click Window -> Downloads and paste the URL you copied int the previous step <Cmd + V>

Voila, your video starts to download. You can rename it to anything you like, keeping in mind that it's a Flash Video (.flv).

VLC or QuickTime should play it.

Firefox on a mac does it and there is also a website you can input the youtube link into on any browser. Think its vixy.net?

There's a handy little app called 'Tube TV' it'll download a video from youtube and convert it to Quicktime and iPod formats.

Guys, you don't need to download any app or visit any special website. pvick's advice is the most straightforward and will work on just about any flash video website.
