What do we think of the Grand Hotel, Wicklow Town?

Will we get 100 players to a €100 freezeout there on a regular basis?

We're thinking of hosting the 28th Sept "Bray" One Hundred here.

    Thanks,
    Stephen.

Bray is closer to me though....

Stephen if you put posters up around Bray you will get 100+
Worst day ever for a tourny when this was on last time.

Will get less in Wicklow and you will need to advertise better.

If you can get a venue in Bray then do it, and do it properly and you will have a top monthly game every month without a doubt.

Basically Wicklow will fail like Bray did at first but Bray can only get better.

Most of the players around these parts are casual players and IMO not allowing them to drink while they play means that you won't regularly get 100+ runners no matter how good the game is. You might get a big crowd the next time if you advertise it properly but a lot of them won't come back because a lot of players around here like to have a drink while they play and for them the few drinks is just as much part of the day out as the poker.

I can see why you wouldnt want alcohol served at your game but thats just my opinion.(I'm making the people around here sound like raging alco's!!! ha ha)

Also Donkey Poker tour only had 43 for his tournament on Saturday and that had a better structure and he is known by the players in the area

It's a nice hotel & would make a good venue. Worth a go.

It's a nice hotel, nice food, big car-park at the rear, easy enough to find the hotel, etc. I do think though that the Donkey Poker Tour might have something to say about it.

Ian recommended the hotel to me, I think we will give this a spin on 28th September. Gamble.

Thats it exactly; we always get a fair few Dublin players to Dundalk so no reason why we won't get a good few to Wicklow for the day....I want to bring a tournament to the area but can't justify paying the hotel charges in Bray so this is really the best we can do for now.

I understand that but there more likely to go to Bray than Wicklow.

Good Luck with it though.I will support it.

    +1 customer here.

I hope it works out for you. As you said Wicklow is only a short hop from Dublin and it's motorway all the way down. I can get from Wicklow Town to Tallaght (via M50) in 35 mins

Just one question; why do you not allow players to bring a drink in to play? Not a real problem for me but, as some other posters have mentioned, a lot of players like a drink when they play.

Years and years of running poker tournaments I suppose.....

Just want people to know they are going to get a well run poker tournament when they arrive. Most players thank me for the rule but I suppose its only the people that have experience of someone drunk at their table, taking forever to act and kicking up a fuss over absolutely nothing that makes them appreciate it.

Ill be honest with you Stephen, if you dont allow drinking in a game in the Grand in Wicklow, you will struggle for runners, end of story. I really hope Im wrong about that and I for one will defo be in attendance.

Im sorry to say that I think that is very much the case Stephen. The Grand is a lovely venue either the Friar Suite or the Abbey Room but most people around here associate poker with beer. As Eoghan says "I really hope Im wrong about that" but it seems to be the case. Having said that I have yet to have one problem at my events due to people drinking. Most problems come from players who have been drinking heavily before starting to play, most players who are playing and drinking tend not to cause too many problems YMMV.

If you need any help with anything steve please feel free to contact me, I suck at advertising things it appears (only 43 turned out for my event) but I am happy to help where ever I can.

    Regards
    Ian

i dont see why not if its advertised in the right places plenty of players from gorey and arklow would travel for a tourney like this one and venue is fine :)

Unlike Bray, its really awkward to get to unless you're driving. I would definitely have played if this was in Bray, but it's pretty unlikely I'll play it now.

Depends on the number of runners.

If 50 players pay €100 a head then the prize fund is €5,000.
