Does anybody know if if having been awarded the BTEA last year, if having just got an offer from the CAO I decide to change courses and start first year all over again in a brand new course if i would still be entitled to receive the BTEA allowance again if i take up the offer and start again as a 1st year

In relation to grants there is some issue about this that precludes a student from getting the grant again as a first year, apparently you only get the grant for each year, so if you repeat a year or change courses, your ineligible ,does anyone know if the same applies to the back to education allowance ?

    replies appreciated .......

With BTEA, you have to be seen to be making progression on the courses you are taking. So it is highly unlikely you will be awarded the BTEA again if you have already availed of it. If you were going into 2nd year on a different but related degree course, that could be seen as progression. So from what you say, it's unlikely. Sorry - not what you wanted to hear....

You will probably get a letter out in the next week or so, asking you to provide a letter from the college stating that you have registered and that you are attending on a full time basis. It would be no harm to have this ready. If you hear nothing by then, drop these into your local social welfare office.
The book allowance normally isn't issued until end of October, but it depends on the social welfare office.
