    hi photo-sniper,

I used to have a d40 and used to have the same problems. according to that webpage you posted the link to, this lens will focus on a d40 as the lens has a built in autofocus (AF) motor. however if i was buying a 70-300 lens I would go for the Nikon 70-300mm AF-S VR, it's well worth the extra few shillings! Hope this helps you.

    Cheers,
    Paul.

There are two different version of the Sigma 70-300. The HSM (hypersonic motor) one will work with the D40/D60, as it has its own AF motor. The non-HSM one relies on the camera having a screwdriver type AF motor of its own, which the D40/60 does not have.
