Athlone to Carrick On Shannon can be very comfortably done in 2 days cruising, with suitable overnight stops being Lanesborough or Rooskey.

That said, if you head off early from Athlone you can make Carrick by late afternoon - about 6-7 hours. The locks/lifting bridges and the weather on Lough Ree would be the major factors to take into account.

I've done Lough Key back down to Athlone in one day but it was hard going and pretty exhausting.

    Happy cruising!:)
