    Hey,

Got a Cisco ip fone 7940G, But when you order one the power adaptor is optional as you can power it over PoE, Have an old belkin router and when I plug the phone it to the router the phone won't work but I knew it wasn't going to power it, but when I pluged the phone into port 1 on the router the light for port 1 came on so I'm guessing it knew the phone was pluged in. But why does the light come on if it can't power the phone?

Also why dose the Cisco phone need 48V seems alot to just power a phone?

    Thanks.

AV-TEC, did you get the Cisco phone up and running? I had one delivered in the last few days (just waiting on the power supply now) and will connect up to either Blueface or Eircom talktime broadband.

Has anyone setup a cisco 7940 for wither of these yet?

    Hey Patrick,

Cisco phones come with the Cisco preferred firmware for their own protocol so you need to load SIP Firmware.

I did and I didn’t, I got the SIP firmware loaded 7.04.00 its not the newest firware but it doesn’t have any bugs in it, but I can’t get the SIP(macaddy).cnf file to load onto the phone, I can see the phone request it from the TFTP server but then it can’t find the file or read it from the TFTP directory but its there with the rest of the files and then the phone will just say on the screen “Phone Unprovisioned”, that’s because it can’t configure as the SIP(macaddy).cnf file isn’t right, Well i think thats the problem

Tried a few different examples I got off net but still wont configure, I’m with blueface asked for help but still getting no where!!

Can someone post a SIP(macaddy).cnf and SIPDefault file that worked for them :)

Looks like I have the same problem. I've got versions 8-2, 8-9 and 8-8 but none work.

It keeps looking for SEP(mac).cnf rather than SIP(mac).cnf

    How did you resolve it?

Might be getting somewhere, had to go down to P0S0203 and then work up through other releases to get to 8.9. Am mid way at the moment.

Phew, got there. What an awkward process.

Had to downgrade from shipped firmware to P0S030203 (Ver 2.3), then go to Ver 4.4, then 5.1, then 6.3, then 7.5, then 8.2 and finally 8.9

Now, to set it up to make calls........

I've had issues with versions 8.7 and 8.9 of the SIP fireware using Blueface - the phone could make calls out but would not receive calls. The phone originally shipped with 8.9 and was working perfectly for a while but then stopped.

I know it wasn't the phone as it would work normally with freespeech.

So I ended up downgrading to 8.2 with no issues.

Yep, pizzahead, thats exactly what I've done. I downgraded to 8.2 and it works perfectly.

Hi guys, sorry to bring back an old one but ive a cisco 7940g and having the same issues that you had above. I have only just ready your post about 8.2 but just wanted to confirm that both incoming and outgoing are now working for you with 8.2 and blueface ?? Im using 8.11 and outgoing is fine with BF but not incoming. And as you meanted Freespeech always works.

Just confirming before i root for 8.2 ...

Any and all help greatly appreciated !!

I'm running 8.2 and can confirm that both incoming and outgoing are working.

However, I have also since installed a Linksys SPA-9000 IP PBX as I now have 2 7940G's in a small office setup.

Super, many thanks Patrickof. Now to try and find 8.2 firmware. For me it was a strange one as its working under 8.11 in my office but granted its a fully cisco kitted office so perhaps its how the device talks out and vlan settings. When its brought home and connected to a linksys router only outgoing calls. Ill give 8.2 a try and hopefully that sorts it. Thanks again.
