Tennis: Mens Singles Tournament. What Format?

I'm running a mens singles tournament within our club. We have already decided it is to be a round robin league format so as everyone will be guaranteed a number of games.

I'm looking for sugestions as to formats for the indvidual matches (eg best of 3 sets, 1 set to 9 etc etc) and also a league point scoring system?

Also, as some of the participants are stronger than others, is there any method of running a handicap tournament?

    Open to all sugestions!

    Thanks.

I haven't played in a number of years, but generally I'm anti-"handicapped tournaments", I mean do you want the best player to win, or the 5th best player to win?

As for sets, it depends on the numbers, and the weather, but if possible, I'd also go for best of three - best of nine games always felt a bit lame to me TBH. Kinda like it's not being taken seriously enough - just my 2c.

Hi Davyjose, its not that we don't want the best player to win, its that we want all the games to be competitive!

first to 11 is a good average for a round robin.tennis is a sport where the best player will almost always win so handycapping is not a good idea sometimes it focuses the better player and they wipe the weaker one. best method is to explain to all at the start that it is a fun tournement and the object is not to humble the other player,
