Outbound calls - what number shown?

Hi, I'm thinking of getting a VOIP phone for making calls from a small office. As it'll only be me using it, I am happy to use a non-PBX type solution, I'll just remember to use the VOIP phone to make the calls rather than the existing eircom PBX setup we have.

My question, as I'll be dialling out on the VOIP phone, what CLI will the person on the other end see? I'd prefer if they see our standard landline number rather than an 07x number, as if they try to call me back I'd like them to go through our receptionist (if I'm not there she'd have to pop across to my desk to answer the VOIP phone).

    Can this be done?

is your exixting pbx capable of handling an analogue line..if so you could simply feed a voip line from an ata to the co on the system and then your recptionist coud answer calls and send them through to you..(may require some system programming) callers wont see your current landline number but they will at least see a geographic number ie depending on your region..To get a landline number sign up with Blueface freedom basic.. www.blueface.ie
other than that just go with an ata or an ip phone (neater on a desk) and freedom basic account.keeping the phone separate on your desk as you suggest.

Have you asked your intend VoIP service provider if they will present the CLI of your existing set-up without porting the number? There is no technical problem presenting any CLI.

I can change the CLI presented by my ISDN phone (not in IRL) to show another number (eg my mobile) if I want to. Your VoIP provider will almost certainly be using ISDN to terminate your calls on the old fashioned switched network.

No doubt ComReg will have all sorts of rules, regulations and restrictions in bureaucratic Ireland for this type of thing - to limit competition and restrict choice - but it is worth a try!

Blueface have indicated that they can do it, provided I can satisfy them that I am the legitimate owner of the landline number I want presented at the B-end.

Looks like its not a problem then.

    Thanks.
