Demand to mind kids at weekends?

    Hi all

I was just wondering if people could give me any feedback on this??
I have just been accepted in St.Pats to do the B.Ed and i have other experience in child care from subbing to helping out in my mothers Montessori school. I need a part time job for college and i was thinking of advertising for babysitting and maybe minding children in the day on saturdays/sundays for people while they shop as i know from aunts/uncles that its hard to drag kids around if your trying to shop for something for yourself. I think it would be good to work in this field while in college.
I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestion for doing this??
or if they think there is a market out there for this...????

    I really appreciate any feedback!!biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

    Thanks a million!smile.gif

I'd say there is a market for it but personally i would do my shopping during the week and i'd prefer a sat night sitter to a sat day sitter. I think the weekends during the day would be more family time than sitting time. I think i'd only want a day sitter on sat or sun if i ended up working or was socialising during the day. Good luck with it!

I also think there would definitely be a certain demand for it, but think you should expect to get the majority of bookings at night time..

alot of supermarkets now have creches in the supermarket themsleves, i think most parents would prob use this when it comes closer to christmas but other then that sitting at night would be a defo plus to me, or even overnight at weekends, for mommies what like to have a lie in when hung over lol

If you are close to an industrial estate that works over the weekend then you may have someone looking for weekend childcare.

It might be worth phoning local hotels and see if they'd have space on their babysitting panel or if they needed babysitting service during the day if there's a wedding in the hotel.

    No harm in trying it.

I would have definitely used you a few years ago as my husband worked Saturdays, and I worked 24-hour-call every 3rd Saturday, which meant my MIL was minding my then 1-year-old son 6 days some weeks, which she was not happy about.
All you can do is advertise at your local newsagent or supermarket, and see how you get on.
