In picture one I find the arms to the right of the picture a bit distracting. Maybe change the crop slightly if possible so that he has a bit more of the frame to run into.

In picture two I like the shot but I am not 100% sure it is in focus on the ball carrier.

I really like these 2 on your stream.

They are both quite sharp and show action/emotion better.

Did you just turn up at the match and start shooting or do you need to get accredited for this? I keep meaning to try shoot some sports.

BTW the link you posted to flickr does not seem to work.

    Here's my view -

#1 - very nice close image with plenty of emotion. You can see the determination on his face. Ball and player in good focus.

#2 - looks a little still for me. There doesn't seem to be much motion. It's certainly an image that could be used for clubs/local papers, since the ball carrier is in focus and clear.

Light, saturation and colours all look fine to me.

For most club matches it's just a matter of turning up and shooting. Very seldom you'll get dirty looks from players and/or supporters if they think you're scouting their moves but in most cases you'll be fine.

If anybody is interested there's a Junior blitz this Saturday for the Spencer Cup pennant at Coolmine RFC

I packed in Division 96 (:o) rugby a few years ago, this fella makes me think I retired too soon. :) Sweet shot!

OK, I don't deign to criticise your shots because I know how hard it is and I'm well off your standard.

I'll make an observation if that's ok though.

It looks as though most of the shots are of the forwards rumbling up the ball. It may have been a feature of the game but the outside backs tend to give the different class of shots. They run more upright and they require more spectacular tackles (generalising here).

Did you move about much? I found that the scrums and lineouts give a good opportunity to play a bit with framing and leading lines. They are much easier to shoot from the touchline. Tries and runs are easier to shoot from behind the posts.

Thats what I was looking for, just to confirm the forwards are the big guys and the outside backs would be the more athletic looking wingers?

Altough I like watching rugby I am clueless about the rules, read recently that there were 13 rule changes recently which will create a more running game and maybe an easier game to photograph.

Yeah, Forwards = low numbers and fat bellies!

Best shots in rugby usually come from lineout and broken play out in the backs as ginger said. If you're at the goalends you can usally get a good few try scoring shots (with tacklers in tow) if you're positioned in between the goalposts, you'll be able to shoot either side of the posts then and not miss out on good shots!

Here's a pic of a lineout with a bit of artistic leeway thrown in for good measure. The original pic itself wasn't worth much until i started messing with the post processing. Comments anyone?

I love the silhouette, I think that the post on the right hand side is a tiny bit distracting but it's still a cool shot.

You'd be better off sticking it in a seperate thread to ask for C&C.

I hope Clon won (they are my old club!!)
Does anybody know if they are they still playing from Kingswood or have they moved?

At the risk of being chastised for going off topic (sorry mods) they still play in Kingswood, nice little set up! Dont know who won the match left at 1/4 time, they played 4 periods!
