This is my first attempt at sports photography. I think I did pretty well.

Bear in mind I was behind the catch net, had a TV camera in front of me to the left and a guy in a white coat to my right (he must be a big fan as he kept waving his white flag whenever Kerry scored).

There's a few more in the set at flickr..

Great game yesterday. Made hard work of it in the finish but all ends well. Couldn't bring the camera to a game with me. Not one where I would be actively involved as a supporter anyway!!

The first one is very nice. Colours are excellent. Pity about the bottom left. Anyway you could possible clone it out?

I think you could crop in closer on the second one and remove the player on the right (Anthony Lynch?) of the pic.

Can't comment on pics as unable to view due to filtering software where I work. I work as a part time sports photographer and for what its worth would suggest the following.

    1. Access is very important - so try to make it as easy as possible for yourself by getting a good location - very difficult in Croke Park for the reaosns you have identified.

    2. Local games/events are usually totally unrestricted and can provide even greater opportunities, access to management, subs, spectators etc. Most minority sports rarely get photographed to a high standard and will welcome photographers with open arms.

    3. Don't always go for the "peak of action" shot - some times the best shots can be behind you or before or after the game and don't require the same quality equipment as needed for action.

Hope this may be of some use.

The location I got wasn't too bad, I was in row B so close enough to focus through the catch net most of the time - next time I'll go over a couple of blocks and get to the side of the catch net. No problem with equipment (D2X + 80-200mm f/2.8) - was drooling over some of the lenses I saw there though

The first photo is not "peak of action" - it's a Kerry player facing off to a Cork player, just got the look on his face as he glanced towards the Cork guy.

    Thanks for the tips though.
