hey just lookin to see what you guys think. Im the proud owner of a yamaha lord player (jap lp copy) and ive got in my head that it needs new pickups.

i had bought a jb and jazz set which i installed and took out (i just dont like the jazz) i have the oringinal pups in at the mo but i was thinking of putting back in the duncan jb and maybe a gfs mean 90 in the neck.

just wondering what opinions on this set up would be?
would it be the ultimate rock machine or would it be an unbalanced set in the lp?

Do you have a humbuckered guitar already? If so, why not a pair of P90's? :)

For the cost of a GFS P90, it might be worth trying a pair. I've a guitar the same as the one above and I just love having P90s in it, you get humbucker meat with single coil twang, great stuff.

Les Paul & P90s = Weapon Of Mass Destruction.
Go for it Loki, should sound good with just the neck or both.

I have'nt heard the GFS pickups but generally hear good things about 'em. I have SD Phat Cats in a Gibson semi , my mate has P94's (Gibson) in an SG. Both sound great, though they're a little dearer than the GFS.
Or you could go balls out with the Bareknuckles again, I hear their Mississippi Queens are fantastic.

(BTW what are those piledrivers like?)

the piledrivers are great its a very "mondern" but not like a hot rails or something it's like havin a angry p90 or something its just i find alot of these hot pups can be harsh on the ears after a while.

yeah think im going to order the p90, the wife is going away for a week so i think i can justify a 50 quid pickup.

but do you guys think i could do better than the duncan jb in the bridge?

The JB is probably my favourite bridge pickup, you just can't go wrong with it.

i was surprised by the jb when i had it in, by how much of a metal tone i could get (i was using a ehx metal muff fair enough) but i really looking for a all rounder from classic rock to stoner doom sort of sound (acdc to melvins sort of thing)

i just didnt like the duncan jazz i thought it was i bit to bright for a neck pup nearly sounded like a single coil to me now i was thinking of going for something like a duncan 59 in the neck but i really like the look of the gibson bfg
and thats why i thought "p90"

amp wise ive got a orange ad15 but i cant really use that (its a wee bit too loud) so its either a micro cube or digitech gnx3000 but i think that gets me what ever tones im looking for.

I've got a JB and 59 in my Eggle (and I installed it in some other guitars I later sold on), it'll do Metal alright, but it'll do everything to clean too without getting muddy. At the moment I'm using the Eggle to record a doom album, you get a great meaty chuck with both pickups on together.
