They're a fairly rare car nowadays. I still see a few of the hatchback variety going around, but not many of the saloon variety.

You could try Buy & Sell to start of with, or even eBay.co.uk if you're really pushed.

There was a 1986 one for sale in a Garage near Tralee for quite a while but was sold earlier this year. Looked in pretty good nick.

I know where theres one, not sure is he selling it though. Very low genuine miles on it too. Didn't believe the fella until I sat into it and seen it for myself, think its 30 something thousand miles.

How much would one of these be worth ?

    I have 2 of these . Great cars .
I learned to drive in one as a kid and they are what got me hooked on Toyota's . The one in the picture at te top is a horrible american model or something judging by that horrible front bumper . :(
Fairly hard got these days . Lots laid up around the place in fields and ditches .Not many on the road now .Although did pass an old lad coming out a church gate in Limerick on Sunday .:D
Old Limerick reg and reasonably clean and all .
Not worth big money really . Id say a presentable one that drives ok and stops and starts is worth anything from 100-300 euro .
And the likes of a low mileage very clean example could make 600-800euro .
    Just my thoughts anyway .

@TigerTim . Was this the blue one for sale in Tralee by any chance

The AE80 standard models have really declined in the last 2-3 years, I remember a couple of years ago posting in this forum about how I was seeing them regularly. Not anymore. The only one I've seen recently is an 87 one that I think is owned by a mechanic in a Toyota main dealers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57 ✭✭macautos

Ya they really are getting past it now .
It is just a 4dr family saloon so i cant imagine too many of them having ever been polished or overly minded . So 21-24 years on they are all showing a good bit of "wear" . (Wear meaning rust :p)
Very popular car in Munster here back in the day and a favourite with the farmer .So plenty got caked with cowsh*te and rotted badly many years ago. Still some to be found in rural Limerick ,Kerry, Cork etc.etc.

Different for the likes of an ae82 GT or ae86 GTcoupe . Hatch and coupe were always worth more so a greater number would have gotten work ,servicing or restoration done over time .

Back in the early 90's my dad was stuck for a car after his minter of a renault 9 louisianne got a lamp post stuck to the front of it.... Brakes failed, no option but to bin it into the post. But he went out and bought a Jap import diesel one of those corollas in white. Had to sell it after 2 weeks cos it was doing his head in. The jap imports at the time were awful. The Irish car was so much more refined and a nicer car all round

Does anyone remember the 'fastback' versions of these? They were strange looking yokes:

Saw one recently, can't remember where though.

I remember that the Corolla LE (luxury edition?) was also sought after.

Anyhow I'm just after seeing an AE80 saloon, brown, 87-CN-815. Different car than the 87 I mentioned earlier.

Ten years ago if someone had told me that I'd be spotting brown Corollas and posting about them on the internet...:D

Owned 2 of these, an 84 liftback, and an 87 LE model saloon, and they were great cars. The LE had electrics, a sunroof, and a rev counter, back in the days when very few normal cars had these extra's.

Brilliant willing 1.3 engines, a light clutch, and a precise gearchange made them a nice simple car to drive.

I know of one saloon in Lucan village, Co. Dublin. its well kept with an original Irish reg. light metallic blue. doubt if it'd be for sale though. Might get a pic sometime....

I know of one parked up a mile or two beyond the railway station gates in Adare.
Hasn't moved in the last 3 years, might be worth a look though?

    hello there.
I'm sorry if it looks like I'm barging into this discussion.
I incidently found this thread, and I cant stop myself from joining in.

regarding corolla AE80/ae8x...here in malaysia there's lots of young people using that car.
    take a look here http://www.gengturbo.org/forum/thread-2824-toklah-ni-ha-untuk-ang-sila2.html
most of them converted this model to JDM look/specs like the pics I posted through the link.
perhaps it could give you some ideas..?

and many of AE80 driving friends recommended this car.
but I'm driving an older, KE70.

    good luck in your quest.
    cheers! :)

Should really have been left standard. Was in very good condition the last time I saw it. Had a 1987 LE in white, colour coded bumpers & electric sunroof. Looked great back in 1989. Brake pedal went to the floor once in it going up Molls Gap from Killarney. Luckily I was going up hill at the time & not down. Think it was the seals in the master cylinder. After braking a few times the pedal came back but I came home with one hand on the handbrake. Must dig out a picture & scan it in.

Looks pretty stupid IMO. The standard steel wheels were a million times better.

    Poor car.

My first car was an Ae80 DX Diesel. Hated it, and it had been crashed when new and poorly repaired (by a main dealer) in the way that it sufferd badly from rust.

Head gasket went in it 6 weeks after I got it (from my dad). We used it around the farm for a while after until the battery died, and for a finish we took a few useful bits off and disposed of it. It was too far gone to bother with.
