Connect work laptop to home wireless network?

    Hi,
I have a wireless network setup.
No problem connecting to my home network with my personal laptop. It automagically finds a nice IP address in the range of 192.168.1.XXX

The problem is with the work laptop that cant automagically find an IP address in that range. It goes to 169.X.X.X

As per this page. Ive checked all the issues outlined there but no good.

    http://www.velocityreviews.com/forums/t296337-cant-connect-laptop-to-home-network-please-help.html
I tried to force the work laptops IP to a specific IP address but this never works, with any of my laptops (any idea why?)
Im fairly sure that the problem is that my work laptop has the workgroup of my company or something along those lines.

Any idea how to fix this?
    Thanks

Are you using MAC filtering on your wireless router?

Does the laptop see your network in view wireless networks?

Are you an admin acc on your work laptop? Have you encryption enabled on your home network and if yes have you entered the key into the settings wizard?

It see's the network and even connects to it. The key is entered correctly.
But it doesnt get a valid IP address.
I am an admin on the work laptop.

    Thanks guys...

Not getting a valid IP means it is not connecting to it, most likely as its failing the authentication of the KEY, never type the key in, copy and paste it in as typos can cause hours of frustration.

Also briefly disable the encryption on the network and see then if you can get the work lappie online.

Shouldnt it be possible to force the laptops to connect to the router using the TCP/IP properties?
I have never gotten this to work using any laptop.
    Should this work?
    My router is 192.168.1.254.
I can see this from my working laptop, but obviously not from the non-connecting one

Looks like a DNS issue - Your work laptop is looking for a DNS Look up to ad.my_work.com so you need to manually set your IP settings set them for example as below - enusre you remove any proxy settings also in your browser if you want to surf.

    IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.10
    Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.254
    DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.254

Thanks, i had spotted that DNs issue with the work laptop and i thought the jpeg i posted earlier would get around this. But i hadnt set the default gateway to point at my router.

    I'll try that later.
