Does anyone one else have difficulty copying 6gb or 8gb files to PS3?

I have a Sanyo HD1000 which creates huge files when using 1080p. I want to copy them to my PS3 but cant :(

I know fat32 has the 4gb limitation but have heard you can get around this using swissknife but I cant get it to work.

I could try copying it wirelessly using TVersity but 8gb would take ages!

I dont want to split the files either!

    Any ideas?

You can't. PS3 can't recognise file larger than 4GB, file system based on FAT32.
Link here is you want a read:

Edit: PS3 can recognise files larger than 4GB. Only way to copy it over is to share it in WMP11 or TVersity and then copy option.

The harddrive in the ps3 itself isnt fat32 and will accept any size file. I saw a guy on line with screen shots of a 21gb file on his ps3. I think he used tversity to transfer it it over, it must have taken a day!

The fat32 is only for required on external harddrives.

The ps3 does accept files over 4 gigs.
Have copied a 1080p movie (10GB) over myself.

The problem is that Fat32 only supports files up to 4GB and the ps3 doesn't recognise NTFS so therefore you can't copy files over 4GB directly to the ps3. However you can, using a file server, "download" the file to your ps3.

What I did was connect the computer directly to the ps3 using Ethernet (wireless would take ages!!).
Set-up the ip addresses manually. Like you would to connect two pc's directly together.
Get Red Kawa file server. Linky
    Run it.
Then go to the ps3 web browser and in the address bar enter the address that red kawa file server gives you when you load it up.

You'll then have access to your computer's files over the ps3 web browser. Find the movie and click triangle then save as, then click on the hard drive and it will begin to transfer.

I've found that sometimes i have to rename the movie to ".mpg" in order for it work.

    Hope this works ;)

I know that they hate MS and all that but do they have to make it so difficult?

If your files are .mkv you can use an app called mkv2vob to split them into the mts2 files for the ps3 to read and it also allows you to set the filesize.
So if your rip was say 7gb you'd have two files , a 4gb and a 3gb. This is just really for the the external drive which has to be fat32.

NTFS is a closed file system used only by Microsft VS FAT32, free-open source file system used and supported by every hardware, software CE company.

Even the 360 which is a Microsoft console doesn't support NTFS partitions.

Linux only this year added support for NTFS partitions through 3rd party driver and OSX has read support only.

I can't see Sony ever supporting NTFS partitions unless either MS allow this for 360 or open up NTFS as open-source software, license it for free.

It is such a pain in the @rse not being able to copy large files from an external harddrive!

@Shanegggg - I have done what you suggested and can see the files on my laptop but I cant seem to copy the *.mpg file to the ps3. I can stream it but when I click the save target option it says please wait for a minute then shows the following error:
An error occurred during download operation.(80710723)

Have you ever seen this before? I have checked Red Kawa forum but I cant see a solution? So close.....

    **EDIT**

I gave up on Red Kawa and installed Abyss Server, worked like a dream and the 9gb file copied over in around 20 mins, it beats the 5 hours which it was taking wirelessly using TVersity!!
