Connecting to the Internet

I downloaded AVAST Anti Virus yesterday.

When I click on internet explorer - (I am using Dial Up) - the computer does not connect.

The connection is set on the option - never look for a connection.

When I change this - to use my ISP (Apply & OK) - It reverts back to never look for dial up , when I try & coonect to the internet again.

    How can I fix this?

Good as I am, I've never, ever had to, or successfully managed, to configure a dial-up connection :/
