Just got back today Burnt out after two great days/nights.

Elbow were absolutely stunning. Great gig. The Breeders were class too.

Yeah, from what I heard they put on a great show. Given that I heard their name mentioned in the popular press a number of times during the last few weeks, I suspect that they'll be getting a great deal more popular now.

Aw man, I love The Breeders. I had considered going but decided not to.
    Kinda regretting it now :(

Did anyone see Goldfrapp, CSS and Tinariwen? They were the other bands I wanted to see.

I saw Sigur Ros, amazing, CSS - really good too, Grace Jones - not bad at all, and George Clinton & the P-Funk All Stars where there mustve been about 50 people on stage at various times! :D

    Hi guys,

I found an IPOD at Electric Picnic. Please let me know if you or any friends lost one as I'd like to return it to the rightful owner.

Please let me know colour, memory size and bands listed under B to confirm ownership.

    Cheers

Tinariwen were only OK, and I'm a fan.
    The Breeders were excellent.
Highlight of the weekend were The Warlords of Pez.

jape was rockin, santogold rocked it, saw cut copy as well, hadnt listened to them a whole lot, was well impressed. the body and soul area was absolute class, funky music, bean bags, tea, sittin on the benches smoking and chilling with strangers. decent food and a selection of drinks to choose from, it murders that other festival we're not supposed to mention.

The Herbaliser were class. CSS were great too. Right now I'm trying to stay awake in work :-(

/edit/ Dan Deacon was brilliant too

John Lydon spent a whole five minutes haranguing some bloke who threw a beer can at him. "Is that you with the diesel shirt? You gay!" Instead of finishing the set and being cheered back for an encore he said, "we're going to have a fag we'll be back in a few minutes". Genius. Legends.

    Other highlights for me were:
    Sigur Rós
    Tinariwen
    Grinderman (incredible)
    Carbon Silicon
Sinead O Connor (I've never really been a fan before now)
I only caught the last 5 minutes of Adrian Crowley, but it sounded great.

I was a bit disappointed by My Bloody Valentine - I thought they only got going after 40 minutes, and in the last 20 minutes, Kevin Shields went on an extended sonic guitar solo. I had the distinct impression that they'd played all their stuff by that point and that he was time-filling at the end.

Others that I missed: I heard Grace Jones was great, Hercules & Love Affair were great, Breeders were terrible, The Kills were terrific, The Roots were supposed to be good also.

I might be wrong but if you contact Apple and give them the serial number, they could track down the owner as you are asked to register the iPod online before first use. No idea if Apple can aid you in this regard but it could be an option worth checking out.

    G'luck. :)

    Sigur Ros, Wilco, Hadouken!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,420 ✭✭✭JaneyMc

Only caught the end of Hadouken! I wandered in when Leap of Faith was playing. I'm sad about that now because I saw them in London earlier this year and they were brilliant. I really enjoyed the Prodigy cover!! Had to throw a few elbows to get me one of the foams H!'s, but I was successful :D

The Breeders were okay I guess. I reckon you're better catching them on their own rather than at a festival.

Goldrapp were great, and I'm not really a fan. Best act I saw all festival.

Tinariwen I knew nothing about but caught the last half of their set. Good like but a little samey and nothing to get too excited about.

Actually, it was "Are you wearing a Diesel top? Diesel's for gay boys". Class. Noone in our group could do anything the next day without promptly being told that it was for gay boys.

Didn't know The Roots were playing at EP. They're my favourite hip hop group.

What was Conor Oberst like? Were the sets different to the Bright Eyes ones or was it more of the same?

Anyone ever heard of Hi Brazil/High Brazil?

Thought they were amazing, best band I saw at ep, can't find any trace of them on google....I reckon this band is going to be huge..I think there Irish..

Anyone else see the Orb...very wet but rocking...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 169 ✭✭nonemoreblack

I think its spelled hybrasil. They are very, very good...and Irish!

Dan Deacon was simply amazing. There's some footage on youtube already if you want to check it out, you really should if you're unfamiliar with what he does.

Other highlights for me were CutCopy (great, but the sound was awful), Yacht, The faint, Sigur Ros, Jape, Santogold, New Young Pony Club, Pivot...and of course Le Galaxie ;)

Didn't think the Kills were good at all, seen them before and they were pretty good then. CSS were ok.

Oberst was absolutely brilliant he played pretty much his new album and some covers it was, along with Grinderman, the highlight of the weekend for me.

Great weekend...have to say, even if the lineup was poor.

Firday was a bit tedious...I'm not a fan of Sigur Ros (before of after), but Goldfrapp put on a good show, from what I saw of her. Album wise, I only rate "Felt Mountain" however.

The Breeders, on Saturday were great fun and seemed to be having fun playing too. Missed Franz Fredinand and Santogold, cos the girlfriend dragged me to Underworld, who, in fairness, were great even though I'm not that impressed with their music in general. I only like two Santogold songs anyway..."LES Artistes" and "You will find a way." so I wasn't missing much.

Sunday was the day for me.

I don't know if anyone else caught them, but Absentee played a really tight 30 minute set, to about 50 people in the Cosby Tent. They were on FAR too early though and deserved a better audience.

From 5:30 or so, I was marking my ground in Electric Arena. Again, I wasn't really a fan, but CSS played a blinder and on the strength of their show, I am buying the CD, which says a lot for a band these days. Grinderman (Nick Cave) was pretty good too, but god it's dirty music as one of the guys we were camping with said.

Then the highlight of the weeked played, My Bloody Valentine blew the crap out of everything that came before and after. It's been over 15 years since I've last seen them and they've lost nothing. It was still as loud as ever, but not impossibly so and christ the drummer and bassist can knock it out. They must have lost a stone in weight. They did their noisy "holocaust" end of set bit during the middle eight of "You made me realise" that lasted for 15 minutes or so and it's something I can do without now to be honest, but it was enjoyable to see all these new indie kids and people who never heard of them before wondering what the hell was going on. Some people walked out of the tent as if they had been through an artilery bombardment. If I get to see them again though, it'll probably be my cue to leave.

After that I wandered over to the main stage to catch the Sex Pistols who, to be fair, weren't that bad and in the end I was glad enough to catch them. John Lydon was putting on his punk it was funy to hear him give a tounge lashing to some beer throwing gob****e in the crowd.

All in all a great weekend and depending on the lineup next year I may go again.

    Tony

Don't know to be honest I never heard them before but he said that they were covers but I going to to guess that he knows what he's talking about...unlike me!

Anyone who went should thank the weather gods, Ok it wasnt the best weather ever but compared to the rest of the summer it was good...i had visions of me putting my tent up in a downpour, and I actually got sunburnt on the sunday. Hard to believe, but true

It was my first picnic and a great experience, so much stuff to see and not enough time, admittedly the line-up wasnt the best, there were probably only 6 bands I really wanted to see, and needless to say I didnt see all of them!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,158 ✭✭✭deathstarkiller

A lot of great acts but my favourite wasn't even a music act, it was Henry Rollins. Fantastic, inspiring stuff. Sure I had to miss CSS to see him but I'm so glad I did. He even came down and answered some questions, shook hands, let you get photos with him. I just shook his hand and got him to sign my Electric Picnic cup. :)
Weirdest moment for me was being at Grinderman and turning to see Patrick Bergin standing beside me.

Disappointed that all you peeps failed to mention Cathy Davey. She is a legend. The crowd seemed a bit lost, as if they only stumbled in from their wee tents not knowing what the hell was going on. I suppose she was on at half 3 which was slightly odd. It would have been wicked if she was on later when people were cruising. Ah well she still did a mighty job!

CSS sucked....turning a mic lead into a skipping rope, kids entertainment if you ask me!

I'm pretty raging that I missed Sinead O' Connor. She did most of her good stuff rather than her reggae ****, well that's what I heard anyways...damn it!!

    Elbow rocked as well.....

Other highlights were waking up in a collapsed tent and in a puddle of water. Funsies I tell ya.

You must have missed the Orb in body and soul on Sunday night, "Little fluffy Rain Clouds" is an understatment...

I was absolutley soaked to the bone after them....excellent gig though....finished off the picnic in great muddy style....

been to the picnic for the last 4 years, think this years topped them all. Digitalism and cut copy were impressive while Deadmau5 tore the place apart with a bangin set... the reward is cheese went down a treat.

    roll on next year!!!
