Toilet Issues In Work

My manager pulled me in over 'Going to the toilet too much', he was saying "I need you on the floor working more, Do you have a medical problem?" and getting really pissed of at me, "You can use the toilet once in the morning and once in the afternoon"

I told him I'm the same at home and i do keep my parents awake going during the night and that i don't know of any medical problem, I didn't run into my manager that much throughout the day, so somebody else was keeping an eye on me...it was the security guard i think, I feel like the managers will be watching over me the next few days.

Should i go to the doctor or take this to the union? Maybe i do have a weak kidney and need to go to the doctor. Has anyone else had problems with managers monitoring or limiting toilet use?

simple really, piss your pants and then go the manager and ask what you should do.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 292 ✭✭KhanTheMan

Ask him if hes going to fire you for going to the toilet and if so he should speak to the union first. Hes a prat.

When i was working in another store, I was pulled in for the same thing, this manager was the worst and she said "Why are you always going to the toilet? From our point of view you could be robbing..." I was being told by the other managers to report her and that she has no right to say something like that.

That manager was soon let go for not being a 'People person' :D

Wear a nappy to work for a day and leave it in his office. What a prick. Union on his ass

I can clean this thread up and move it to work and jobs if you want some proper answers.

Same with me, I used work in EPOS and I use the toilet quite alot as I drink alot of liquid during the day.. He pulled me on it, even though he know how valuable I was and that no one else wanted my job! I informed him I almost died from a kidney infection when I was a child and it is recurring.. He never brought it up again :) A$$hole.

I was thinking of getting the union involved, But i was on good terms with this manager until now, I would feel bad setting the union on him and causing trouble.

Just piss on him. After the ninth or tenth time that day he'll realise that you aren't just taking the piss.

Do you know who my union rep is? Its my Mother! I'm not joking...I don't want to tell her about this, Because it would seem like i need my mother to fight my battles. :o

Firstly, it's none of his business whether or not you have a medical problem or not as he was clearly asking a rhetorical question. He may as well have said "going to the toilet too much, would you rather be unemployed and alone, shooting up heroin as your crack addict babies crawl around the mouldy carpet looking for a syringe to play with?*

Secondly, he is not allowed to set a limit on the amount of time you go to the toilet. Many companies set a time limit, for example Apple give you 15 minutes a day in bathroom time. If your going to the toilet 45 times a day for 20 seconds at a time thats less than 15 minutes...So basically tell him that if it's a problem then he should approach you about it professionally rather than asking you outright if you have a medical problem or not.

*ok, so I got carried away

i do that.... But only if I've drank a pint of water while working during that hour... I'd get it checked out tbh.

I had a team leader like this - she'd wait outside the loo for me (it was at most 2 meters from my desk so in and out in 2 mins) telling me to get back to my desk and log in - I'd already told them I had a medical condition and was told no probs as I wasn't going over the allowed time. She was a bitch thou and it came to a head when she told me I was moving up to a desk beside her so she could "keep an eye on me so I wouldn't be leaving my desk" - I told her boss i was out of there if i wasn't moved to a different team and it was sorted the next day.
OP ask your manager for the times he stated in writing or where in your contact it limits the amount of time you can go to the loo - that'll be the last he says about it imo.

tbh that sounds excessive particularly if you are leaving a shop floor unattended.
How are you managing to produce a refill without drink anything in the hour.

That does seem rather excessive. Are you drinking constantly?

I don't think it's that unreasonable to be pulled up on it really. I know don't why everyone is so quick to jump on the manager... they've got a job to do as well.

I have had a good few people over the years make a meal out of their toilet breaks... it's not really an issue as long as the work is being done. But I had one girl who was awful and would disappear for half an hour at a time... Which was a big problem as she was supposed to be manning the reception desk, so her not being there meant I kept getting interrupted by calls.

There isn't proper working air conditioning in the shop, So it gets very warm in the store, I do have 2 cups of coffee during a Saturday to keep me going, But it dehydrates me and i need to drink a fair bit of water after it.

I would never go out the night before unless its very important.

Some people just have smaller bladders than others OP, its not for your manager to decide whats biologically permissible in employees. The only reason to take a worker aside is if they aren't doing their job. Bet there are smokers in the business who are taking breaks almost are regularly.

    DUDE, YOU ARE OVER-DOING IT!!

nobody healthy needs to piss that often. either get it checked out and get a note from your doctor, or cop the fück on!

look at it from ur bosses perspective like! employee going for a piss evey hour! honestly theyre payin you to work, if I were your boss i would have checked it out with you or given you a warning aswell. come on like! NOTE, or GTFO

Assuming you work a std 8hr day, if you get a morning break , a lunch break and an anoon break then there is really no reason to be going to the bathroom outside of these times.

this happened to me in an office i worked in a few years ago. it wasnt even my manager who reported me. i was managing a team and a manager of another team reported me to HR for constantly going to the toilet and for spending too long in there. (granted i was going to the toilet to smoke crack and then do a quick jab of smack, so i would usually pass out in the cubicle for long periods of time). but the thing was it didnt even effect this manager as she was nothing to do with my team. so me being there or not had no relevance to her day. it was purely just complaining for the sake of it.

in the end when HR took me to one side about it i just acted sheepish and explained that i had a medical condition and said that i hadnt brought it to their atention because i was embarrassed by it. nearly everyone in the office was female including the HR Rep so it was believable that i wouldnt want to go to a woman and discuss by toilet behaviour. anyways, she was so embarassed by the discussion that she apologised and never brought it up again. result.

i used the same excuse again when i was found asleep at my desk a few times. i said the medication i was on for the medical condition was making me drowsey and becuase there was no air conditioning in the office it was causing me to doze off. for this they gave me a nice window seat so i would be able to have constant fresh air, and they also let me go for walks around the block to wake myself up if i was feeling drowsey.

i forgot how useful it was being male in a nearly all female office.

tesco does have a union albeit not very good...

OP, I had a similar problem in my previous job where I was constantly visiting the loo. In my case it is because of a medical condition but under no circumstances does your employer have a right to tell you that you cant go to the bathroom.
Unless you are purposely doing it just to doss and they have proof they cant fly off the handle at you just because your bladder capacity is less than average. I would say it is a case for the union because you are clearly being discriminated against for something which is out of your control
I was brought in about absences regarding my illness which is fair enough but they said that visiting the bathroom was not a problem and that they could not stop me.

Do you go to the toilet because you need to pee or you just like spending time in toilets? George Michael had a similar problem. Maybe google might help show he cured that addiction

Diabetes, a thyroid problem, a small bladder or an irritable bladder.

I'm sure there are double that amount of options to choose from really.

ohh no...He had a different kind of problem! :D

It would be a relief if there was something wrong, so i can flash the doctors note in the managers face.

if i was you i would get a quick check-up at the doctors. there is a chance it could be Diabetes but without a check-up you wouldnt really know. tbh if you go to your GP he/she can check you for most conditions while you are there. at least it will put your mind at ease.

    Whoooa there Trigger.

Lookee here , once an hour to the shítter is too often, get a bit real here horse.

Now if the Boss is bothering you here's what would suggest ,if circs allow.

Eat a good hot curry the night before followed by a half kilo of Bombay mix and,
if possible, 5 or 6 lambs kidneys.

Wear your trakkies into work if that's allowed and if there is an issue with the going to the jacks, just relax the sphincter, and express the lot into your jocks.

The resultant commotion and fetid viscous pallid stink will turn the pressure on the bosses who will be forced to admit you do have a problem.

Either way on one piss an hour you have no fcukin future in any company ,unless you get the matter seen to.

Yeah i have been told it might be diabetes, I'm going to consult the doctor about it, I hope i don't have to keep jabbing myself everyday with insulin.

I was tested for diabetes two years ago. I remember drinking 15 litres of water a day, pissing every 15 minutes (whether I drank the water or not) etc. I was pre diabetic it seemed. A quick lifestyle change and you can bring yourself back to normal. But, once you get diabetes, it never goes away. Take care of yourself to be honest. Diabetes affects every single system in your body, starting with your metabolism.

Trust me on this.. some people have a medical condition that can mean a LOT of visits to the toilet in a single hour let alone a whole work day.

i think the reason u need to go to the bathroom so much is that some types of alchohol can cause the kidneys to over produce urine. tea and coffee are bad offenders as well so maybe if u try cutting back on these drinks it might help. i seem to piss a lot more when im drinkin tea or when im out i drink bulmers which is really bad as well.

i can only assume your not workin in a chinese sweatshop in which case tell ur boss where to go. if you need to go they cant stop you as going to the toilet is a basic human right in which case ur boss is a Nazi and should be handed in to the gardai:D

Your manager is a gob****e, but you need to go to a doctor and tell them the above, could be anything from bladder trouble to the onset of diabetes.
Worth getting checked out just in case.
