My PC recently died (I think it may be a hard drive problem). When it boots up it gets to a certain stage then stops and starts the process over and over again. Anyway was wondering if I can:-

    1. Copy files from my hard drive to a new PC?
    2. Copy files from my hard drive (OS WIN2000) to a MAC PC?

Any help/advice would be appreciated as I have many important files on the original drive.

    Thanks

    Chris

You can take out the hard drive and plug it into your new computer, put it on the same cable as the main boot drive in the new machine. Make sure the jumper settings (pins at the back of the hard drive) on the old hard drive is set to 'Slave'. You should be able to copy from there.

No you can't copy directly to a Mac (why anyone would want to is another matter) but using a PC you can via the network. If the HD is formatted FAT32 then you should be able to by putting it in a enclosure and connecting it via USB.

In the meantime stop trying to boot to the HD . If it is failing you are putting it under undue stress and curtailing it's lifespan .
