Losing drive letter at each reboot

My CDRW/DVD drive keeps disappearing from My Computer at each reboot. If I go into Disk Management and assign a drive letter it then appears. But it's gone again at reboot, and the letter assigned to it is gone from Disk Management. Any ideas? It's a Packard Bell, Windows XP.
