Plus sized models, eh they are NOT fat!

I was watching Gok Wans How to look good naked! I ve noticed he has alot of so called plus sized models on his show. I ve noticed one in particular who is on lot of ads and TV programmes.

    http://www.ninablakemore.com/gallery.html

I think she is an absolute stunner and I can see why she gets so much work. She described as a plus sized model and some people would call her a fat model.

However to my eyes she is simply NOT fat. She is broad built and busty at 36D but I don t see rolls of fat on her. She looks a hell of alot better than the tiny size sero models you see in the magazines.

Marilyn Monroe the greatest sex symbol of the 50's and 60's was busty, big boned and a size 16. Why is this no longer considered attractive or sexy? By todays standards she would probably be told to slim down.

Sure you can lose fat but if you are broad boned or busty its close to impossible to achieve size 6 status.

To me a fat person is someone with rolls of fat on them and a big bloated face. This woman (Nina) does not look like that. She is curvy the way most women are. The majority of women have breasts and hips and not all of them are small boned and flat chested.

What I don t understand is that size 6 and below models are what is representative of normal models. Shouldn t they be called undersized in that case?

Sophie Dahl was described as a fat model when she was a size 14!

To me someone who s plus sized is actually fat (ie rolls of fat). Since when did being broad built, curvy and busty qualify as plus sized? If anything these plus sized models look more like normal women and they are a hell of alot prettier in the face than the underweight ones!

    who said she was fat?

to be honest i disagree that most women are curvy the way she is because most women do have rolls of fat on them

    prettiness is subjective too

Is it not called "plus size" because, the average is a 12 and if you're bigger than that you're 12+

I wouldn't call her fat, but she's over weight yea. She'd be healthier if she dropped a dress size (from a medical viewpoint, bmi etc) She looks size 14 - 16 to me.

She looks a 16-18 to me.

Health and weight are not necessarily related.

I can see fat rolls on her stomach in the picture with the other girl posing swimsuits, and her arms and thighs are flabby. She's not just broad shoulders/ big boned OP.

Yes, I agree she look sbetter than size 0 models. I feel anything under a size 6 is just unhealthy and horrible to look at. But at the other end of the scale, I don't agree with TV/ Magazines saying the likes of Beth Ditto/ Fern Britton are curvy when they're obese. I call a size 12 curvy. I'm a size 12, but for my height I'm 1.5 stone over my recommended weight! For my bone structure I should be 8 - 10.

Again, that's just opinion. People are all different shapes, beauty comes in all forms etc

Think in the UK its 14 -16!

I don t see wads of fat on her, The weight is evenly proportioned. She certainly is big built i.e. heavy shoulders but i don t immediately see something wrong with her.

I think she looks like an average enough woman. I think her stats say she is 36D! BTW That brings some women up a size or two in tops.

Some times clothes size can depend on your body shape. You can t do nothing about broad shoulders, big breast, hips etc...
But these things are different than wads of fat!
I don t see why Sophie Dahl got called fat at a size 14!!

Who has the perfect stomach sitting down? Her thighs are not mammoth.
She seems like a normal type of woman you would see on a beach. When I say wads of fat I am talking Michelle McManus proportions thats FAT! Nina isn t fat imo!

I agree they most certainly are obese. But the likes of Monroe and these plus models are just curvy and well built.

I d love to know when it stopped being sexy for women to look like this???

I find that shocking, that's pretty bad.

Tell me about it, I'm 34 DD and 14 in a bikini top and 8 on the bottom

You can lose the fat from your breasts, in fact it's usually what's first to go of you're dieting.

She was "fat" for that industry as she was twice or more times the size of a standard model. But then she went and lost all the weight. Looks like a lollipop

I think she's pretty hot, wouldn't like to see her being any skinner.. I find scrawny women look scary and unhealthy.

Thats just whats the norm over there. I wouldn t have said Ireland is much better.

I know the feeling. I am 34DD too and a size 10 on bottom. I too can be as big as a 14 on top only thing I end up with a baggy waist that needs to be taken in. Or I tie the bikini together rather than use the clasp.
Point is I know, I am not a 14 but I am occasionaly forced into it because of being busty.

They shrink but im never gonna be flat chested enough for an 8 or 10. Even though I m the perfect weight for my height!

The problem is the standard model is way below what she should weigh. Surely Sophie Dahl was more normal by British standards, then she decided to follow suit alongside the skinny ones:rolleyes:
thought she looked alot nicer bigger.

Plus-size, as in not a size 6 and therefore will not get catwalk work. Nobody would describe them as being plus-size in general, it's average, what's so offensive in that it means they're bigger than a size 6?

Marilyn Monroe was a 16 by the standards of the time and probably would not be today. She would have been a lot less sexy in some of the iconic images if she wasn't held in by corsets.

Look at the swimsuit pictures. She is overweight. Not too badly, but she could easily loose some.
