    Hi all
Anyone here know what elecitves 1st yr vets usually choose /are expected to choose??
Do most people wait until their advisory session during orientation week to choose their electives? I don't want to go off and pick my own random electives if most of the class all pick the same electives!

...Why not? Your very rarely "expected" to take a particular elective, and vet students tend to take electives that interest them. Unless your worried about being trapped in a room where your the only vet, in which case: There's no point. Honestly, almost none of my socialising is done inside my degree - My social circle is one I picked up through societies. You don;t need to be doing the same stuff as your classmates, your optinos are:

    1) Do something that interests you
    2) Do something that feeds into your degree
    3) Do something really easy

Which of those you take is up to you, whichever you want yourself. Your unlikely to be snubbed by your classmates and almost certainly not by your lecturers based on your choice.

Hi Ireland's call, I'm actually going into 1st vet too and I've been having trouble trying to pick my electives. Its such a confusing concept, we're actually allowed to choose what we study after all these years of compulsory subjects...mindf*ck! I picked spanish,I thought a language would look good on my transcripts and be a nice change from all the science orientated subjects plus I just really love it. For my second semester I picked animal ethics because of a genuine interest in i...So, ya, basically my point is not all vet students will be picking sciencey yokes. Maybe a level one language? Polish maybe? Level one languages are easy peasy, you could chat up all of the polski girls AND it'd look good on your transcripts with their rising population here.
Meh, just an idea! But ya get what I mean!

Hey, I'm going into first vet too and I spoke to the programme office who just suggested that you don't take anything with too many practicals or tutorials. After that it's up to you

try take a 1st year nursing elective, they SUPER EASY, usually no exams jusa short essay or some kind of project that you will more than likely do very well in and bring your GPA up. Taking easy electives def takes the pressure off other subjects.
