as a workaround - just print to PDF in Word, then print off the PDF you just created.

My Word prints fine with my HP printer. Could the problem be with the printer?

(Not necessarily, of course; I had a version of Acrobat Pro and another of Quark that refused to print. Got rid of both in the end.)

Here's an M$ help page on printing problems: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313553

Office X dates all the way back to 2001 and it was the first version created for Mac OS X:

    http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2001/nov01/11-19retailpr.mspx

You can check your versions from the "About Word" option in the main menu, to confirm if is X, 2004 or 2008.

I don't think the problem is anything to do with the printer itself - as the OP cannot print to PDF either, which uses a completely different driver to whatever physical printer you may have.

If you have Office X and a newer version of Mac OS (10.4/10.5)
you might have a compatibility problem. You may need to update your version of Word. In Office 2004 you go to the help menu -->Check for Updates, cant remember if its the same in Office X. Yes Office IS a pain in the a**e.
